Getting an education drastically increases lifetime earnings, so it seems comparable.

We enable them, as we have in the past...I have a younger brother who worked 2 years, in the Navy, and has never held a job since. He is 61.....somehow qualifies for a 50% veterans disability rating, for bad hearing....In 4 years, he will qualify for a VA pension, based on low income....
I am hoping that the recession we are in now causes some serious thinking by our politicians. We need to stop handing out welfare to those who are able to work, but are just unwilling. I look at my lazy brother, and then at a friends grown Downs Syndrome daughter who is self supporting, and see a great injustice.

I do a lot of training with adults, and I tell teachers that it is very important for THEM to dress professionally to set an example for their kids. The sloppiest looking professionals out there are usually teachers.

You all are asking for a study well here is one:

That's not research, that's a survey of teenagers in the UK where uniforms have been dominant for decades. It's worthless garbage is what it is.

Already did that a while ago, that does not mean I have any newfound love for social control. The demand for conformity and the authoritarian style of rule are just as repulsive to me now as they ever were.

Teenagers who took part in the Oxford Brookes University survey said dress codes acted as a social leveller and reduced the risk of children being picked on for wearing "weird" clothes

A survey is the raw data for a study, or did you miss that in school?

You did that (turned 18) a very short time ago, based on the content of your posts. When you have children of your own, which won't be for several more years hopefully, you will change your mind. When you do, you can come back here and tell us you were wrong. Until then, you won't recognize that you are no matter what the rest of us say.

I turned 18 a while back, too, about 50 years back to be exact. I have three wonderful grandsons who wouldn't be so wonderful without that terribe authoritarian style of rule their parents subject them to.

OMG! That is 13 years ago, when you were only 5! Why, nothing could possibly be the same as it was way back then.
