What do you know, social control.

Well now, here's an old-fashioned "it is needed so that the State might protect us" argument.

Of course, hardly any of these are as meaningful as any of you think. For instance, someone committing a crime outside the school may simply not dress in the uniform when committing the crime. Then there is the fact that clothing even more distinctive and individually focused will make identifying a specific person easier whereas only being able to identify by school would lead to every student being investigated by the State.

You know, speaking as someone who went to a school without uniforms I have to say that people were not "distracted" by the clothing other people wear. I mean, if a person is wearing something new other students might make a remark, but generally these are at times when such conversation is allowed.

    "Self-expression zones" huh?

Hey back to social control. Of course, none of these justifications here are true.

Funny, because I have some scientific studies that say uniforms do jack**** to improve anything.
    So give us links already....
and there is nothing wrong with a little social control, especially with young folk....
heck, even us old folk can be troublesome. Ever hear of Sun City, AZ? a community of retirees, with a very high STD rate....

Teenagers are God's punishment for their parents having unprotected sex....

If they are still living in my house, there is control.
If they are away and in college on my money, there is still SOME control....
If they don't like it, and want to be independent, they are welcome to move out and become self supporting....

we were lucky, I guess, we never had to bail either kid out of jail, they got thru college, got married, got jobs, and THEN started making babies, all in proper sequence...

School is different from everyday life because you're a CHILD. And children, in addition to having a lot of other annoying chararcteristics, are not able to concentrate as well as adults. Which is why you see such dramatic improvements in schools where uniforms are worn.
Annoying characteristics? That sounds like a personal problem

Their lack of an attention span is what makes changing something as superficial as clothes work? Are you reaching for straws? I sure hope so.

You do realize that clothes is just a tool, right? The idea it would actually change anything or that the tool just won't change is very stupid.

I need to remember to tell my daughter this. Although, she's 17 and told me this year that she wished that they had school uniforms. A couple of her friends go to private school, and she was told that it was a lot easier to get ready for school in the morning because she'd have to spend zero time picking out her clothes.

It sounds like you are quite proud of your young adult offspring. As you well should be, of course. Did any of them wear school uniforms when they were growing up?

It would have worked a lot better if it had actual proven your point. Making sense would have been a good start too.

It is. Thankfully, most kids grow out of such personal problems. Not all though.

Are you familar with the concept of "put up or shut up?" I've provided some evidence that it does work. Now you get to provide something that it doesn't. Otherwise, while you certainly are entertaining, you're not offering much here.
