I was going to PM you, but thought it better to post this here. I have thoroughly enjoyed our back-and-forth, Catz. You are obviously an intelligent woman with strong opinions. Me, too! You've caused me to rethink my position on management's responsibilities for crime in large apartment complexes, as I posted a few posts ago.

I'm never going to back off my opinion (based on subjective observations and experience) that large apartment complexes in suburban Chicago are areas of mini-crime-waves. Nor my opinion that those individuals who own 6-flats (as an example) in an area with many other 6-flats are not necessarily bad managers and rarely slum lords -- but that also they experience the very same mini-crime-waves.

I guess that's called a stalemate. If you would prefer to call it a win, I won't complain. ;-)

There were only 16 robberies in the city of Addison for the entire year of 2010. There were only 33 aggravated assaults in that year. FOR THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY.

Gray reports both assaults and aggravated assaults occurring on his property, along with robbery and "armed robbery" (aggravated assault). Beyond that, he reports assaults by police, attempted rape, and attempted murder (also known as aggravated assault).

Well IM glad they are doing their jobs. By the way, reporting a crime doesnt mean the police are really doing much about it. Its just a REPORT on the crime.
Either way I still stand by my position. Police should have ZERO pension and they need to pay at least 20% of their healthcare costs just like the rest of us. Even with THAT they are making a great living! Plus their "perks".

I'm sure it seems like there is a lot of crime in the suburbs of Chicago. You see reports on the news, and it appears to be a dangerous place to live. But in reality, the crime rate in Addison isn't that high. 16 robberies...in an entire year...is extraordinarily low. The number of burglaries in the community are also extrremely low.

I agree...there are a lot of property crimes in Addison. But there aren't a lot of violent crimes, per capita. And, GRAY CLAIMED TO HAVE HAD A LARGE NUMBER OF VIOLENT CRIMES ON HIS PROPERTY. You can say what you want, but his claims aren't believable...EVEN FOR A LARGE, VIOLENT URBAN AREA, it would be extraordinary to have that kind of clustering in a single area unless it were a slum.

Sorry. You may know a lot of stuff, Maggie, but you don't know what you're talking about here.

Do you know Gray in real life? IF not, how do you know his claims are accurate? The crime totals in Addison certainly don't support his claims.
I don't believe or have not posted that these crimes were through 20+ years of landlording. And yeah most have happened. Not the murder. We had a tenant that my mother felt was a serial killer. And after five years he had moved out of the apartment he was on the news. For what? He killed his gf at the time with a hammer. And robbery happens A LOT of it goes unreported. We know because the tenants tell us things on other tenants. And the copper thing, it was a mistaken identity but still did not feel good to experience a 6'4 280Ib jumping on your back knocking you to the floor with all his weight on you.
