Wal-Mart to start airing Homeland Security messages

Wow. This just seems so over-the-top to me. I think our nation has absolutely lost its collective mind worrying about terrorism. This kind of message seems incredibly Big Brotherish. Do we really need Janet Napolitano to warn us to report suspicious activity in the Wal-Mart parking lot? I mean, really?

What do you guys think? Is it appropriate for DHS to produce this kind of message to air in Wal-Mart? Is it appropriate for Wal-Mart to air such a message? (And please don't post any bull**** like "zomg private company they do what they want lol." I already know Wal-Mart's opinion; I'm asking for yours.)

It's kinda messed up and I think it's a mistake not to really define "suspicious".

I don't think this has anything to do with fear. As for if it should be done, I could honestly care less. But since it's probably paid for by taxes, I am against it. I don't see any reason to be against the message or anything like that.

Sure, air it in Walmart. I'll never have to see it.

There simply MUST be more here than meets the eye...some kind of partnership with Corporate America or something.

I could see public service announcements like this on television actually; but at a WalMart? Just plain strange. Like TwiLight Zone strange.
The devil whispered in my ear, "You cannot withstand the storm." I whispered back, "I am the storm."

I say no. If Walmart wishes to have a spokeperson warn you about terrorist and other stuff then that is Walmart's business. But Public officials should not be doing this. It gets their foot in the in door for other types of broadcasts and stuff. If there is really a danger outside then a Wal-mart manager can get on the PA system to warn people.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

Re: Wal-Mart to start airing Homeland Security messages

Yesterday, my mother sent me some nonsense e-mail about muslims attacking us in the air. It was a fraudulent piece written by a man who wasn't even on the flight on which the scenario supposedly occurred.

My parents shop at Walmart. I'm sure the message will be received loud and clear--by them (and others like them)--who are just afraid of the evil muslim menace.

I think we are going to perish, as a species, from drowning in our own stupidity.

p.s. This is exactly why I never set foot in Walmart.
