I celebrate Christmas despite being an atheist. There's nothing religious about our Christmas celebrations though.
If you build a man a fire, he'll be warm for a day.

If you set a man on fire, he'll be warm for the rest of his life.

Sadly this has become true. Corporations have made sure that as of November 26th they try to suck the life and soul out of Christmas asap. My fiance loves Christmas despite being indifferent on Christianity something I am trying to stop because well, the circumstances of her being pregnant and likely giving birth to our child the week of Christmas is nothing short of a miracle, and I want my daughter to grow up know that Christmas, Easter, aren't souless schills used to line hershey's and nintendo's pockets but has a real meaning.

Interestingly enough, I believe at one point a few years ago companies made Christmas happen in December and the churches went along with it for some reason, because as far as scholars can tell Jesus was actually born around springtime in Israel and in fact his ressurection probably happened closer to winter time.

Actually I just thought of why it happens in December, and it is because of an old Pegan holiday where we actually stole the idea for the Christmas tree too. It just is convenient for businesses that it is at the end of the year...

"We’re going to close the unproductive tax loopholes that allow some of the truly wealthy to avoid paying their fair share. In theory, some of those loopholes were understandable, but in practice they sometimes made it possible for millionaires to pay nothing, while a bus driver was paying ten percent of his salary, and that’s crazy." -Reagan

    Eid.

I don't celebrate Christmas except sending a few co workers cards and always avoid the holiday entirely. Bit too materialistic for my liking

Christmas is in December to coincide with the solstice and/or a pagan winter festival. Has been since about 354AD.

Interestingly, I think Christmas could be used as a case that supporting the arts and such is a good idea because so much artistically comes out of Christmas, specifically Charles Dickens is the architect of Christmas as we all know it currently. If not for him Christmas could have possibly died.

It really though is a childs holiday and a way to keep them in line by telling them Santa will give them coal if they don't quit putting peanut butter in my damn dvd player and can't quit trying to put the damn cat in the microwave for the 5th time.

Festivus for the rest of us.
Also, we need to legalize recreational drugs and prostitution.

What do you mean? Using Santa as a device to keep children in line?

I would kinda like to address this.

I know that children are a major target of Christmas advertising. But then again, it's always been that way. I remember as a kid making out my Christmas List by looking through the newspaper and looking at the advertisements that Toys'R'Us would slip in and mark down which of the toys I wanted to get.

Now that I'm older, Christmas for adults don't seem to target them for what they want, but rather on getting good deals.

And as for getting together with friends and family, well, a lot of people hate their friends and family, and for good reasons. Just because someone's related to another person doesn't mean they get along with them. I have a bunch of family members that I'm better off just staying away from, so I avoid spending time with them.

My ideal for how I would spend Christmas Day is maybe going out to a pancake house for breakfast, driving around town a little bit, going home, and then vegging out on my bed while watching cartoons and anime all day. Maybe I'll get to one of these days.
Also, we need to legalize recreational drugs and prostitution.
