No, I can't support the current incarnation of the TSA. It is too aggressive and intrusive and treads too heavily upon the rights and liberties of the individual with little to no increase in security.

    Welcome to 2009...
Al Qaeda Bombers Learn from Drug Smugglers - CBS Evening News - CBS News
To get his bomb into this room, Abdullah Asieri, one of Saudi Arabia's most wanted men, avoided detection by two sets of airport security including metal detectors and palace security. He spent 30 hours in the close company of the prince's own secret service agents - all without anyone suspecting a thing.

    How did he do it?

Taking a trick from the narcotics trade - which has long smuggled drugs in body cavities - Asieri had a pound of high explosives, plus a detonator inserted in his rectum.

This was a meticulously planned operation with al Qaeda once again producing something new: this time, the Trojan bomber.

The blast left the prince lightly wounded - a failure as an assassination, but as an exercise in defeating security, it was perfect.

I answered I generally support because quite frankly I dont give to hoots about pat downs and body scans, if they think it makes us safer then so be it, dont care, why would I.

I'm not sure which is better - an invasive pat-down, or an invasive scan...

Personally, I think the scanners are the better option, up to and including the ability to scan the internals of a person - so that if they have some bomb shoved up their ass, it would be noticed...

I would really rather that than someone physically searching my ass for a bomb, just to be sure...

    ----------

Basically, I see it this way....

It's either this, or have someone suicide-bomb a plane with explosives he/she hid in their ass.

Now, my position may be skewed by the fact that I have only flown a few times in my entire life, but I would RATHER be ensured the plane was safe than ensured my junk was untouched/unscanned.

Even taking into account my ingrained/indoctrinated from childhood aversion to anything invading my privacy...

I believe it to be one of the biggest invasions of privacy in our history. I don't fly, but would refuse to if forced to go through this crap.

No I do not support the procedures. I can't imagine one of them touching my kids like that. Creepy.

See, that's the easy thing about being a terrorist - even if you fail, you still cause damage, if indirectly...

15 years ago, no one could possibly have imagined that we would find it necessary to do these things...And people avoiding air-travel due to them may damage irrevocably the airline business.

    Damnit.

yep thats how terrorism works unfortunately win or lose it always has an effect.

on another note while I agree 100% that things have changed 15 years ago I knew people 15 years ago that refuse to fly and I know people today that refuse to fly and thats the plain and simply answer that stairs everyone in the face.

Im with you, don't really care for the rules but they don't bother me where i'd ever get emotional over it, its nothing worthy. Dont like the rules, dont fly.
