Sofar Congress has tried and failed to pass the DREAM Act (citizenship for illegals who go to college), the DISCLOSE Act (publishes major donors names so that the other party and the SEIU can harass them and send them threatening emails and letters), and the defense spending authorization (with a repeal of DADT and taxpayer funded abortion on military bases).

They have not tried to pass an operational budget for 2011, extension of the Bush or Obama tax cuts, or defense spending without social riders.

They also have on the list the START Act treaty. This is viewed as a mutual "drop our pants" bill by some and a nuclear enforcement bill by others. It calls for mutual disarmament and inspections in the US and Russia.

So with very little time left before 2010, when the government will no longer be funded and shut down and taxes will go up on every American, rich or poor, what should be Congress' priority for the end of the year?

Keeping the taxes as they stand right now for at least 2 years, is of utmost importance. No tax hikes and I hope the republicans stick to their guns.
I hope they wait until next year to work on anything else.

The things you do or don't want passed - what's more crucial to their outcome are the committees they're first assigend to.

As you can see, Congress is ridiculously busy - committee assignment either expedites bills or slows their progression (which of ten leads to it expiring before a debate or vote)

They should pass the START Treaty immediately, and should figure out some resolution for the tax cut issue instead of letting it drag into next year. Everything else can wait until January.

They should focus on extending the Bush and Obama tax cuts. I don't want the current congress doing anything else, not even balancing the budget. I would trust the Republicans more with the rest and hope many things like the DREAM act will be shot down.

All of the above....lol
With 9% unemployed and probably more underemployed, talk of tax cuts for the wealthy are sickening.
There is so much that must be done....true campaign finance reform for one.

The rest of this year? Deciding what tax cuts to keep, finalizing the 2011 budget, would like to see a Republican plan that can be summed up in more words than "We are going to be assholes not douche bags like those other guys."

Your comment is curious. What you basically said: "9% of people are unemployed, the thought that we shouldn't take more money away from employers is sickening". Does that really make sense?

End the tax cut extensions would be a great start. Then get on that budget!

interesting libertarian position-supporting more tax hikes (ie government taking wealth from the private sector)

far left socialism never makes sense to anyone who is rational and loves freedom
