Will Obama be a one-term President?

Will Obama be a one-term President?

It depends. Does he dig his heels in and attempt to continue to push his ideology or does he pull a Clinton, relent, and focus on whatever policies he can realistically work with Republicans on.

If he does the former, I think there's a good shot he's a one term. If he does the latter there's a good shot he's a two term. Other factors play in...how much the economy recovers and how much it can be spun for Obama rather than the congress, who the Republicans run, how much fervor is still going with the tea party, etc...but I think the above is going to be a big one.

I'm more cynical. I think it has more to do with whether the GOP candidate has more charisma. That's consistently been the most accurate predicter in Presidential elections in the TV age.

this is true. Clinton was more charismatic than Bush I; Bush II was more charismatic than both wooden Al Bore and John "herman munster" Kerry; Obama was more charismatic than McCain.

Just goes to show that most voters are retards and cast their vote based on anything besides the issues.

Its not the media that is trying to prop Palin up....its the people in the Republican party that WANT Sarah Palin. The political powers in the GOP are trying to drag her down because she isn't "Their" candidate. I hope that the people in the Republican party win out because Palin is the best candidate out there for the GOP and she ABSOLUTELY should get the nomination.

The media in general wants to prop her up because they know she will lose just like McCain did or even worse than McCain did. Which is why every liberal out there wants her to run.

The times they are a changin' in terms of what people find charismatic in a candidate. Up until Obama, the charm was good looks, smooth tongue & somewhat clean past. Looking at what the GOP voters find interesting, you'll see a lot more of Chris Christie, Paul LePage* types.

* I know LePage is a virtual unknown on the national stage, and while he's an interesting man, I'm not sure he's got the chops to be a great governor. What's surprising about Paul LePage in terms of likability & charisma, is that a little more than a month before the election, he publicly stated that he would "tell President Obama to go to hell." In. A. Blue. State. Physically he's a slob, he talks like a hick, he's not terribly experienced, and he's got a great rags to riches story that he won't discuss. More and more "real guy/chick" candidates are going to be the trend in politics IMO. 2 years is a long way out, but if the election were this particular point in time, I could see the nation taking more to a Chris Christie than the smooth tongued Obama.

You know, for a segment of the voters, you are correct. I think the independents are the ones swayed by the charisma and they are ones who decide elections.

Exactly, and they are the ones who decided the mid-terms.

Yeah, that doesn't make them loyal though. The GOP is going to have to raise the debt ceiling. That is likely to be brought up in 2012 elections.

I think you are completely wrong. There is no better spokesperson for the GOP today than Palin

Are you republican? You keep insisting this, so I'm wondering if you know something the rest of us don't.

It seems more likely that he wants Palin as spokesperson for the GOP because in his opinion, she'll harm rather than help it – and at that, more harm than any other possible spokesperson.

And since he is not a republican (or so it seems)...

“There is no better spokesperson for the GOP today than Palin”.

That’s my guess, based partially on having heard other opponents of the republicans make similar statements.

No I'm not a Republican...but I do follow politics a lot. The problem with the GOP has been that they really haven't had great avenue to get their message across.
Sarah Palin is a godsend to the Republican party. She has done more to energize a stagnant party than anyone in the last decade. She has the ear of the Republican base and would by far be the best candidate that the GOP could field in 2012. The rest of the sad lot represent the old failed GOP. They are stagnant and boring. Sarah Palin brings energy and ideas to the party. The old establishment know this and will try to shut her down, which is why it is up to the people of the GOP to speak up and support Sarah Palin for the GOP nod.

Sure and that's why every lib wants her to run for president against Obama. Because of the fact Palin quit being governor of Alaska because people said mean things about her or her family she is a like a conservative republican who hands the media his gay love affair sex tape.

Not at all. Sarah Palin has taken a one-foot in the grave GOP and put some real energy into it. She is a serious threat to the old GOP regime and that's why they are trying to silence her. Do I think that Palin would beat Obama? Probably not. But Palin is the best chance that the GOP has and they would be foolish to not give her the platform and let her run with it...and I say this despite the fact that I personally cannot stand her. I'm just calling it as I see it.

People said that Clinton would be a one term President and look how that turned out.

People thought there was no chance in hell that GWB would be given a second term and look how that turned out.

Honestly...unless some unknown rises from the ranks of the GOP there isn't a front runner right now that would beat Obama....even as bad as things are right now and that assumes that things don't improve.

That may be but who was going to vote for Bob Dole?
