It jumped the shark with the Picard-living-an-entire-life episode that was a baldly derivative of Arthur C. Clarke's The Star ...... jumped the shark with a flute.

Ha!! I forgot about that one!! Terrible!!!

The Universe died a measurable amount when It perceived what a small piece of Itself did by airing that episode.

Buffy the Vampire Salyer? That wasn't so much scifi as fantasy.

Pick your favorite ... if it's not on the list, it was probably too cheesy or short lived to make it.

Why are you trying to make my head explode?

Yeah, but eventually it grew the beard.

It got better, but I've always disagreed with that trope name, because the second season was arguably worse than the first. True, they got rid of Yar, who was a horrible character, but they also ditched Crusher and replaced her with Pulaski, who was worse than Yar.

If they're going to name this kind of thing after a TNG thing, it should be "changed out of pajamas," because it was the third season when it started improving, and notable was getting rid of the terrible pajama uniforms, which vastly improved the overall look of the show.

EDIT: Or perhaps it should be called "Retired the Roddenberry," because every incarnation of Star Trek he was involved in -- TOS, the movies, TNG -- got markedly better when he didn't have control of it.

It wasn't the fault of the producers or the writers that Pulaski replaced Crusher, if I remember correctly. I believe that Gates McFadden didn't like that she was getting so little screen time, so asked for that season off to look for other opportunities. She didn't get them, apparently, and came back the next season.

Star Trek. Though it was short-lived, and often unintentionally hilarious, I struggle to think of a single science fiction series that has inspired so many.
Same should go with The Twilight Zone.

Well, they created Pulaski, so it was an unforced error. But "fault" doesn't matter; it was what it was.

The Twilight Zone was neither cheesy nor short-lived. All sci-fi TV owes its existence to that show.

Yes, but at a close second was "The Outer Limits". It was way ahead of its time, and just the lead-in credits rivaled the Wicked Witch of the West for being able to make a little kid pee all over himself. The way they rotated in guest stars, similar to The Twilight Zone, was spectacular. For those Trekkies here, did you ever watch the couple of episode of TTZ that Shatner starred in ? Well before Star Trek ? Gremlins (on the wing) was great !

Yeah, I think I have to agree now. The Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits both proved that science fiction, which at that time wasn't very well regarded, was viable on television and made it possible for all other sci-fi shows to be aired on TV.

Deep Space 9, My Favorite Martian

Or the TZ and OLs with Nimoy?

Yes !! Just doing a little research, and not only were Shatner and Nimoy on The Outer Limits, but so were Doohan and a bunch of other Trek stars. Read here:

The Outer Limits Connection -- Star Trek Myths Pt.2

And, for us old timers, and you youngsters, you have to appreciate how friggin cutting-edge this was in 1963:

Spock's ears .... all that came from The Outer Limits, btw. And the first episode, "Galaxy Being" with Cliff Robertson, is one of the most classic hours ever produced on TV.

Star Trek was the most influential. Buffy the Vampire slayer was the best written and best acted with many layers.

V had the best line ever (Michael Ironside just blew up a bunch of lizards and looks at a dead V and says

Damn waste of Fine Luggage)

4 and a half pages of comments, and no one says Doctor Who???

I've got to say, it was close between Dr. Who and Firefly (Serenity was a great ending to the series!), but Dr. Who has a much more indepth universe than Firefly, with mystery, continual plot, action, some romance, and the unconquerable hero.

I watched Dr Who a couple times and it was the most inane bunch of third rate acting I have ever seen. seriously

That depends on which Doctor you saw. The previous one, David Tennant, was by far the best Doctor, but the current one Matt Smith isn't that bad either. I think the Doctors before these two are outdated, and a bit cheesy.

So which one did you see? Keep in mind there've been 10 or 11 of them.

Battlestar Galactica didn't win every vote? What's wrong with you people?
