That was an interesting show about the collapse on a generation ship, right?

sorta but not really. It was a moonbase which suffered a nuclear explosion that knocked the moon out of earth orbit and sent it spinning to outer space.

I bought the box set a few years ago.. was crap so returned it. was much better when I first saw it as a 5 year old.

YESSSSS DAVID TENNANT TO THE DEATH!!!!!!!!!! God I love the Doctor too. He's easily the most incredibly fictional character in existence, and the most capable too. I love the idea of a lone person silently, selflessly helping thousands and millions of people across time too

I find it sad that what was built up during Russell T Davies was somewhat taken apart last season with Steven Moffat. Most of the emotion and character build-up of The Doctor was removed. Now he is just a smart guy that travels through space and time. He is now a 2 dimensional character. :(

I couldn't get into Red Dwarf. It struck me as little more than a sitcom set in space, rather than in an apartment building like Seinfeld.

I prefer SciFi that takes itself at least halfway seriously. That wasn't sci-fi, it was comedy.

David Tennant
Matt Smith

So, 'technically'... 12. 13, if you count Richard Hurndall, who played the part in place of the deceased Richard Hartnell in one of the multi-doctor episodes.

I think you missed something in my list...

Ah, touche'.

It went all Old Testament on us (predictable if you watched the show).

But the pilot episode was good enough to be a stand alone movie. Excellent sci-fi.

Oh, it was a fantastic show up until Exodus Pt II, which was one of the finest hours of television of any kind, ever. Then it promptly slid, and fell off a cliff at the end of Season 3.

Add "Resurrection Ship Pt II" And "The Hub" to that and you're good.

The Christian stuff was there from the very beginning -- you just didn't know they were playing for keeps til the last episode, which admittedly was a pretty big wtf for me as well. But from episode to episode 95% of the show was some of the finest story telling in television, second only to The Wire and Breaking Bad.

Bonus GEEK points to anyone who can name the movie and director for this quote...

GOOGLING IS CHEATING:think:

not it, but it sounds like something Bruce Campbell would've said in Army of Darkness. If I had to guess I would say something by John Carpenter, no clue which one though

I absolutely agree with you. The last 3 seasons really developed the Doctor, especially since they followed him from start to finish, and Tennant's acting skills really made it apparent. Nothing against Matt Smith, he's a fine actor, but he just doesn't say Doctor to me, and the new episodes definitely lack a deeper side. I think we can all say we're never going to forget Davies and Tennant.

My favoite David Tennant line was 'I'd call you a genius, except I'm in the room.'

Mine is the following exchange between Doctor and Rose

Rose: Doctor, they've got guns.
The Doctor: And I haven't. Which makes me the better person, don't you think? They can shoot me dead, but the moral high ground is mine!

Agreed to some degree. Unfortunately, Davies made the Doctor angsty, something we really don't need. While I think Davies increased the depth of the character, I think many of his choices were simply wrong for what Doctor Who is. While I absolutely adore Steven Moffat as a writer, I just don't think he has it in him to run the whole show. He needs someone to hold his leash. Most of the really great stories done in the past few series have been Moffat's, but when he was actually in charge of the show and revisiting those plotlines, he really messed them up IMO.

I like V and Star Trek: TNG, out of those listed. TNG is my favorite of the two.

However, like others I liked some other SciFi shows. I like Firefly and Eureka. I watched Fringe once, and it was pretty good, but I have a hard time watching things now regularly. I liked seaQuest though. In fact, it would probably be my favorite scifi series.

If not mentioned, another one from the '60's would be The Invadors with Roy Thinnes. Ran for a couple of seasons, and like so much back then, was cutting edge because it was the only edge ! Not up there with The Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits, but I never missed an episode ! The idea was present day America (then) where the enemy aliens are infiltrated amongst us, and only the lead character knows ! Remember the defective finger :)

The Invaders (TV Series 1967–1968) - IMDb

I don't know WHAT I would do if my middle finger was defective...

Such a useful finger…

It would be far more amusing to me if that was the defective finger in this series I've never heard of until now.

Dirty minded and uncouth bastard that I am…
