IMO, this "votes grab is BS..."
First - I don't know who wrote that stuff in red that that you have as me being quoted - but I didn't type that stuff in. You need to learn how to quote properly. If that's someone's answer to what I wrote, you need to quote it under a different name. Second, it's not BS just because you say so... it's a fact Democrats pander to minority voters.

We treat everyone EQUALLY under the LAW, as it's written in something you may not have ever heard of... it's called the Constitution. Imagine illegals having to conform to the laws that this country has issued instead of getting a free pass. Progressives need to understand that pandering to a minority voting block by buying their votes in exchage for citizenship is still pandering.

Hmm.. maybe because our lies and corruption are a helluva lot better than theirs?

They're here to get a job mostly. Some are here to mooch off the welfare state. Others are sticking around for the free pass called the "Dream Act". It's a dream alright for Democrats and the Hispanic vote for 2012 and beyond.

I'll repeat: Bribing hispanics with citizenship for votes is pandering. Treat everyone equal.
I think if Thomas Jefferson were looking down, the author of the Bill of Rights, on whats being proposed here, hed agree with it. He would agree that the First Amendment cannot be absolute. - Chuck Schumer (D). Yet, Madison and Mason wrote the Bill of Rights, according to Sheila Jackson Lee, 400 years ago. Yup, it's a fact.

    This makes sense.
Pursuing policies that make no sense is not good government.

It doesn't make sense intellectually either.

Allowing everyone who wants to come here isn't economical or practical, particularly if the rest of us are going to have to subsidize their secondary education and health care. There's nothing economical about it.

That's not what this policy does. Local, state, and federal governments are at cross-purposes on the illegal immigration issue, for economic, social, politcal, and cultural reasons. It uplifts some states economically, but not others. Within states, it uplifts some cities and counties economically, but not others. It bothers some populations socially and culturally, but not others. As far as local, state, and federal, bureaucracy goes, it burdens some departments and bureaus, but not others. Within departments and bureaus, it bothers some bureaucrats, but not others. As far as local, state, and federal legislatures and executives go, it helps some of them, but not others.

Illegal immigration is the quintessence of a thorny issue. Blanket amnesty and citizienship is a heavy handed way of dealing with the problem, but at least you can tax them that way to make up for some of the cost. It is easier than trying to broker an agreement between social forces completely at odds with each other.

Not that I support blanket amnesty. I'm just explaining the temptation.

As far as this policy goes, it picks out illegals who can be "useful" to the United States and selects them for citizenship. Any effective immigration policy would have such measures.

and what do you do with the next batch that enters illegally? I am against the dream act. No way should illegals have citizenship handed to them.
