it isn't a free country. not even close.

It once was, but not in my lifetime.

Right now we are so heavily regulated it is ridiculous.

Great, when WWIII starts, where will we be? In a hole...with millions of untrained citizens.
But we will be "free", right? at least until foreign troops gather us up.
Veterans day is coming up....anybody got any extra patriotism to spare?

Not all regulations are bad, you know. I would bet that nearly ALL, if not ALL regulations are in response to Wall Street types latest version of how to screw the public out of a portion of their hard earned gains. People are easily corrupted in the presence of lots of money...

What does this mean? Is it patriotic to want mandatory service or to not want mandatory service?

I got plenty of extra. I served (paratrooper) and I don't want mandatory service.

I don't even know what people mean when they say we are free anymore.

I'm free to work exclusively for a Christian. I'm free to exclusively date a Christian. I'm not free to exclusively hire a Christian however.

I'm free to buy a car exclusively from a Christian. Can I only sell a car exclusively to a Christian? Obviously it is stupid for me to do so, but I suspect like most freedoms, this freedom has been removed in the name of class warfare.

    Re: Mandatory military service?

I'm not really for mandatory military service (I don't want a bunch of jackasses holding the line with me) But I do think that some type of basic military training would be beneficial, followed by a couple of years of some kind of federal service, be it military or civilian.

    Re: Mandatory military service?

Mandatory public service, in general, would only serve to enlarge the bureaucrazy. We've got excessive "good enough for government work" outside the military already. What kind of fiscal and overhead responsibility is this? This debate should be drawn strictly on big government vs. small government lines. Either you're with the commies or you're with us.

Further, I'd appreciate if you didn't take my money and create a crappy second-rate job of poor service with it. Thanks.

that is a different subject for a different thread :-/

I've got plenty of patriotism. So does my husband who just retired from the Army after 21 years of service. And he doesn't believe in "mandatory" service, either.
But if you're referring to a necessary draft, should that NEED arise, in some future WWIII scenario, well that is a different subject.

I'd rather pay em to do civil service than pay em to be on welfare

    Re: Mandatory military service?

Welfare costs less and requires less government management. Why should I train them and give them a job when I can pay half as much, they can stay home and smoke crack and I get the same level of service.

Are you going to tell me that this program will create an efficient, good service public sector? No? It remains crappy? Then keep it small and charge me less for them to smoke crack instead. Thanks.

ps. Stop being a dirty commie.
