OK. Do you think that we should have a holiday honoring Cesar Chavez, for example? If not, should I foam at the mouth and say that you actually hate America?

(Actually, that would make more sense as a surrogate for America. At least Cesar Chavez was American and actually set foot on this continent.)

Your ranting about columbus is pathetic. Its hilarious you are fixated over a guy who died what 500 years ago or so. He has a holiday

deal with it. I just find it hilarious how libs feel so guilty about America being so great. self loathing seems to be a common disorder among your fellow travelers

Re: Does Christopher Columbus deserve a holiday?

Christopher Columbus is honored for his pioneering spirit in crossing uncharted oceans to see what he could see, not for his efforts in race relations. There were very few people in 1492 who would have held up to scrutiny based upon modern standards in that realm.

I'm sure that next you'll tell us that we shouldn't honor George Washington or Thomas Jefferson, because they both owned slaves.

So, some historical figures have warts. Shockers.

I don't know where you've taken such offense from my statement -- I was simply pointing out that your belief that the American War for Independence and the creation of the Israeli state are the only two successful revolutions in history is about as dumb as believing the sun orbits around the earth -- there are a hundred and one examples that prove you wrong, and no evidence to say you're right.

Are you so incensed upon seeing my avatar, supporting a political theory and a historical entity that you don't agree with, that you can not objectively think about history when speaking to me?

Or the Indonesians that traded with the Aborigines in northern Australia.

But the problem with Mr. Tasman was that he found the west coast of Australia and Van Diemens land, and, to quote Adam Hills, said "Vell, zis iz ****.

Yep! And he is famous for saying that and then buggering off back to Europe

But in all honesty Cook is far more deserving of international recognition than Columbus ever was

Yeah, rather than just going to one place like Columbus, he went everywhere.

But the best bit is he lived up to his last name.
