    Re: Automatic or manual

    I like both.

I have a truck that's a manual for driving in the snow or off-road and I have a gas-efficient car that's an automatic for everyday driving.

Manuals may have the edge though, they can be much more fun to drive.

    Re: Automatic or manual

Personally, I would think driving off-road (like jeep roads) would be a complete pain in the ass with a manual, unless of course you have three feet.

I have to honestly ask how much difference a manual makes in slippery conditions too. I mean if you like a manual thats cool but I really don't think the edge is that great.

    Re: Automatic or manual

I have driven a manual only a few times so I can not comment on whether or not I would prefer manual over automatic. So right now manual just looks like some relic feature from the olden days.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

I prefer a manual because it saves $1k or so on the cost of the vehicle.

Stick is better IMHO. but these days you generally have to pay extra to get a manual tranny. both my current vehicles are auto but I do have an old '92 silverado, 5 speed stick, that my son and I are working to restore for him to drive next year when he turns 16.

    Re: Automatic or manual

I can drive both, but have an automatic right now

You have a better resale value with the automatic as more people can drive them, the traffic issue is not that important to me

Automatics tend to cost extra when you have cars that offer both (many US cars will generally come only with automatic)

In the future though the manual will dissappear to be replaced by the CVT or manumatics that are popping up in all cars even Ferrari (sp)

    Re: Automatic or manual

I used to love driving manual transmissions, but after suffering a knee injury it's painful to shift. I use automatics now because it's less stress on my knee.

Or it would, if you could actually mount one on your vehicle roof and drive with it without getting pulled over by multiple cops/other law enforcement persons inside an hour or two.

Depending on the population in the area you are driving in, of course.
