No, I don't see the point of burning any book. But, I completely support the right of others to do so. Frankly, I just don't care.

i always support the right of a moron to make a complete ass of himself. it's entertainment.

I am a liberal. What do I need with burning the Koran when I got the Constitution and flag to burn?

You don't like Catcher in the Rye? Damn! Salinger's an awesome author, especially with his morose views.

Whats one copy more or less...he has like 18...

;)

Why would I waste my money?

If you wanna piss off Muslims just draw Mohammed, it's cheaper and better for the environment.

You had me agreeing... until the last word... few words.
Maybe next time :)

BTW... someone else can start the next poll... but anyone think this guy will be killed by a Muslim for this?

.

I would feel just as apathetic about people making a spectacle of burning those things as well.

Throw another log on the fire, who the **** cares. Big whoop. Can't figure out what people are getting all up in arms about.

I can't say florida wouldn't benefit from one less religious nutcase. In this case, i would view it as a form of social darwinism, just like I'd view Fred Phelps being offed.

I only request that anyone that does has the guts to go do it somewhere were they have a legitimate shot of getting messed up really really badly. Show the true strength of your conviction, not just some limp, impotent, 'look at me Im somebody' gesture...

I wish I could thank this a thousand times. Go burn the Koran in Saudi Arabia, not Gainesville. THEN, I might respect you.

I am not going to burn a Koran. However I am out of toilet paper...

/sarcasm.

Seriously though, I am not going to burn one, but I support the rights of others to do so. They just act like the barbarians (who burn flags, Bibles, effigies of people) that they want to protest though... Hypocrisy is funny :peace

No. But, like those that will, I have every right to do so.

Book burning isn't really powerful anymore - it is just symbolic . . . with the Gutenberg printing press we really did away with the actual impact of it.

Burning books *use* to be an effective way of snuffing said information out of circulation - predating the printing press books were handwritten. If you burned a library - you had more of a painful effect on the people.

However, even that wasn't sufficient - certain writings have been erased but their fundamentals that people carried in heart and mind continued on, were re-written, and spread around in it's place.

Do you hold the same for those that burn the flag - that to shoe the true strength of their convictions, they should do so outside the frint gates of Camp Lejune or Camp Pendleton or 29 Palms?

Yes indeed. I can tell you the account of my father and several other American Legion vets, a group of assholes at a college, and a can of gasoline. Long story short, no flag was burned that day, because the smarmy little college boys didnt exactly have the strength of convictions that the vets had.

Edit: No need for them to travel to Camp Lejune. The results will be identical if attempted in front of me. Or about 500,000 or so of my family.

Not sayin they dont have the constitutional right...but you can bet their own personal constition will be tested.

You can't get into SA through. So it's impossible. Nor would I tell them they have to go to SA to prove their resolve. Their point is that they have freedom of religion and expression and that will allow them to perform the act. Which is true, in America we recognize the rights and liberties of the individual which leads us to this consequence of that. In SA they don't, and government force will be used against you. Thus his statement cannot be held true if in SA, it is true in America and other similarly free countries.

I understand their point, but it would be eversomuchmore poignant if they did it in SA, Iraq, Afghanistan, Morocco, or Indonesia. Even, for that matter, in the Netherlands.

My Way News Photo - Quran - Burning

According to this Rev., Sept. 11, 2010 between 6 & 9pm is International Burn a Koran Day. Are you going to participate?

.

No, but I would like to attend the tar and feathering of television and radio talk show hosts Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck and Michael Savage, political commentators David Pat Robertson and televangelist Daniel Pipes and Alan Dershowitz, Horowitz, and all the other right wing rabble-rousers.

It would most likely end in their deaths. Not so many countries are so stringently devoted to the upkeep and security of the rights and liberties of the individual as America is. Here we take the good and we take the bad of freedom and accept the consequences and responsibilities which come with freedom. Not many other countries are as devoted as we are. In fact, most of those countries you listed are no where near as close. So you go there and your rights are not protected, you burn a Koran there; and you're dead. It won't happen in America, we'll give you every protection we can so that you can go ahead and burn that Koran without being mobbed to death. It wouldn't have made any point in a country they would have been killed in for attempting to exercise their rights; other than to give the anti-Muslim side more fodder.

NOthing says freedom of speech and American Dream like a good round of tarring and feathering.

Lame...Dont go to Saudi...go to Syria. Go to Palestine. Go to Iran.

I have done a lot of work with the Jerry Springer type crowd...and so to my great discredit I will freely admit to watching at least a few episodes of Jerry Springer. Heres an observance...there are an awful lot of chippy little bitches in the crowd that talk tough and act tough...but the only reason they do is they KNOW that the security there will keep them from actually getting hurt. Same with the prisons...when the scared straight program was used the teenage thugs smirked and laughed because they knew at the end of the day they got to go home. Now...just how firmly would they have stood by their conviction if they had to spend the night...the lights went out and the cell doors went clank...and they faced the very real prospect of having their rectal temperature taken by a hardened inmate?

These jackasses are no different. yeah...look at us...we are burning Qurans. Right here...with guards...and cameras...and probably quite a few police officers...and for WHAT exactly?

That's pretty much how I feel. I wish the media would understand that if they weren't giving this nutter air time, no one would even have heard of it.

This x10000

I never heard of this up until a few days ago and the only reason I now know about this is because people keep ****ing going on about it. Leave the damn nutter alone!

And OT: I have burned and buried my Qu'ran before .... but probably for a different reason
