If we somehow talk this nut out of this and they get their way, what next will be putting ourselves and troops in danger? Will they go after our gay rights marches and start protesting those in the ME.

I wouldnt burn a Quran, but let me just say I completely support another persons right to do so!
Not that Ive actually though that through, but because its the grippiest, truthiest, freedomest thing I can say.

Yes, I'm happy that it's allowed to exist.

I gather from your comment that you don't think it matters that this idiot is risking our troops' lives in Iraq? Like, you don't know any soldier that has been to Iraq, you don't have a relative that has gone to Iraq, or is still there?

Will they go after our gay rights marches and start protesting those in the ME.
    Huh?

When did we become a bunch of pansies?
We are not pansies when we take the advice of a general that is right there in the midst of where our troops are and knows what he is talking about. Yeah, I guess when you are not the one in danger, who cares? That seems to be the attitude of most conservatives on this matter.

Can't say I will, because I find it distasteful to burn books. It's also foolish to go out of your way to antagonize another group of people with such a contentless form of protest.

Nope and I'm not going to burn a bible either. Such inflamatory acts are for scumbags.

I'm not saying it should be stopped but people should be letting them know that it's not cool and that they don't represent all Americans. I agree that the media played a big role in blowing this out of proportion, but the fact remains that the world now knows about it and how other Americans decide to speak up about it (or not) will reflect on the nation.

Simply saying that it's their right to do it seems rather apathetic to me. Do you care that this kind of hate exists in your country or not?
Hate exists everywhere, and will never be expunged. It is better to let these people identify themselves than have them go underground.

What is most pathetic are folks like our neighbors to the north in Kanuckistan that deny people the right to free speech when identifying scum.

Steyn, at the moment, is effectively being tried, by a quasi-judicial panel in Vancouver, for insulting Islam.

Normally, that's the sort of proceeding you'd expect to hear about in Saudi Arabia or Iran, not the West. But the British Columbia Human Rights Commission, in the cause of protecting minorities, asserts its right to judge and even restrict speech.

Is burning the American flag also the purview of "scumbags"?
