None of those things. Illegal /= wrong or harmful, so I certainly wouldn't tattle on a teacher for something so minor.

The only things I can think of that I would speak up about are things like child molestation, kidnapping, physical violence against others. **** like that.

Presently smoking marijuana is a crime.

Other than that, it probably doesn't matter. The teacher, however, is a role model for her students, and she should be held to a higher standard of conduct than your garbageman. So they can look at porn, but shouldn't be posing on bangyourteacher.com.

Drinking is legal, but if the broad's an alcoholic and she's coming to work hung over or otherwise inappropriately, she should be out on the street the same day.

Having a cell phone is legal. Teachers should not be allowed to answer their cells while in class. To make sure that happens, they should be fired if they fail to turn their phone in to the office when they come in to work in the morning.

There's the occasional article in the news about a mutant teacher that gets a sex change and wants to resume teaching the class it left. No, the children don't need that kind of confusion in their lives. The thing should be transferred to a different class once it's mental illness is treated.

I agreed up until the cell phone thing. They should reject the call, turn off the phone, or leave it on vibrate. Turning it in seems a bit over the top.

Smoking pot, as it is illegal. I would report them for breaking the law and encourage the school to preform random drug screenings.

Do you actually call the police when you see people smokin' pot? Wow!

I voted who cares, but there are a few things that a teacher could do during their private time that I think should cause them to lose their jobs, but none of the ones on your list. Some of them for me would be:

Committing most felonies (probably irrelevant since they'd most likely be in jail). I could make exception for some though.
Drinking or using other drugs to an extent that it affects their ability to do their job.
Engaging in inappropriate behavior with students (sexual/romantic relationships with students, even if they are of age, buying alcohol/tobacco for students who aren't of legal age to use them, etc.)

Teachers? What about cops, judges, lawyers, doctors for christ sake? Doctor does pot at home, you gonna call the cops? Many doctors do all sorts of pills to stay awake and such... people end up dead. I swear, the constant attacks on teachers just makes me sick. So many small minded pinheads out there that it isn't even funny...

A person's private life is their private life. Once they leave the school, what they do shouldn't be the schools concern.

If there was a thread about those other professions fine. But this one is about teachers. If you're that concerned about all the others not getting their share of being in the spotlight then make your own post about em. ;)

As long as their private activates don't affect their teaching ability (both directly and indirectly), I don't see the issue.

I hear you, but the point is that nobody makes those threads. I won't, because I don't go looking to hang professions and people out to dry, to look or sound unprofessional, to ridicule... and that is what happens to teachers every day in life and tons of times on this forum. It is getting pathetic, to be honest. I understand the innocent nature of the question and that people worry about who is teaching their children, I do to, but it is just taken too far and teachers are treated poorly. Like I said, I could make the same argument against other professions that have people in positions of power or morality, but people rail on teachers instead. People don't give the perverted priests half as much grief as they give a teachers union or salary. It is a societal problem and one that is not only completely illogical, but completely sad. The teachers that are out there like teaching, like kids and are working very hard to make teaching in schools better every day. But, they get ****ted on far more often than they get praise. They are treated like idiot baby-sitters instead of held aloft for caring for kids and their futures. It makes me want to puke. It is disgusting behaviour. When called on it, the teacher bashers come up with all sorts of brain dead idiocy to back up their ideas... and that is truly sad. Anyway... not sure if this was your thread, but those are my thoughts based off of years of observations.

The following activities listed are none of my business.

If it is not affecting their teaching and it's not illegal. Why is it my business?

Actually, I would only tell the principal if it is affecting the teaching, for instance if she uses harder drugs. If not, but it is illegal, then I would cntact the police. The only one who is illegal is pot, but I don't find potsmoking to be very bad.

It's their private business as long as they keep it their private business. If they're sloppy enough that the students are aware of it, it becomes an issue.

Why not? They are abusing illegal substances. I believe she should lessen the punishment for pot, but it's still illegal. Would you call the police if you witnessed a murder or any other crime?

I only call the police for crimes I assume they'll give a damn about. Call them for someone smoking pot and the evidence will be all gone before they arrive.

No I wouldn't.

dear god. yes, pot is illegal, but no worse than having a drink.

Depends on the traffic law. If it's just a speeding misdemeanor than no. If they are driving drunk and I knew about it I would report anyone.

sometimes pot possession is just a misdemeanor.

If you get caught doing it in your private life, chances are, you deserve what you get coming to you professionally.

In most professional jobs, having a good moral character is a requirement to maintain that license. The reason for this is that often the person in this profession can wield a lot of power in their domain and is seen as an expert in the subject. I see no reason why teachers should not fall into this type of professional qualification.

Ultimately this means that the teacher should be following the laws and maintain a standard of integrity. Since integrity is not on the poll, the only thing that I would vote against would be breaking the law. If weed were legal, I would not care. If the teacher advocated for weed being legal, I would not care.

If it was none of our business when the sitting POTUS got a hummer from his intern, then why should it be any of our business what anyone does in their private life. If a teacher violates the law, report them to the police..not their principal.

I've done it before. I went up to someone's house for something, you could smell pot smoke wafting from every window and the person who answered the door was clearly stoned out of their mind, they could hardly put two words together. I concluded my business, went back to the car and called the police. Whatever happened from there, I have no idea.

Well forgive me for not wanting to uphold the law and prevent illegal substances from being abused. Call me a snitch, but at the end of the day it's the pot smokers butt that will be jobless and in jail. Don't want to go to jail? Don't break the law. Pot is illegal, and I think it's sad that law enforcement doesn't enforce it enough.
