Autumn is my favorite season. It's where the hot, frantic nature of summer is starting to calm down and things become slower, start to relax, and it feels like there is more rest in the air. Things aren't asleep yet like in winter but it's not as lively as summer. The air is cooler but not freezing yet. There are always 2-3 weeks in there where climate is perfect and I'm almost always outside.
Also, on an energy level (or whatever you want to call it), autumn feels like the new year to me, as opposed to January. I never understood why Jan. 1 marked new years day... I always felt it was more like that in the fall, and for me Halloween has always marked the transition. Not sure why. September always denotes new beginnings for me and the passing of the previous year, and it's not because that's when school starts. Even when I haven't been in school I've felt that way, and I always feel more reflective and calm in autumn.
I learned recently that when the leaves turn yellow, red, and orange, you are actually seeing their true colour, because the green chlorophyll is gone.
