Will Obama's support of the Mosque hurt him/the dems in November?

Will Obama's support of the Mosque hurt him/the dems in November?

First of all Obama is full of ****. His support for the construction is solely because conservatives are against it, so by default he has to be for it. The notion that Obama supports property right is a joke and nothing more than a lie.

Obama said it is a local government issue. So why is he talking about it?

No way... and if it matters in this election cycle (either hurting or helpings Dems) then that tells you something about Americans.

Or maybe the influence of news shows that keep talking about it.

Yeah but it's already well know that unfortunately "news" shows influence a lot of votes by using partisan rhetoric instead of facts and figures.

I don't know because we like on a 24/7 news cycle and people all have news story ADD. I notice that the Republicans and Democrats alike right now are not really focusing on real issues and instead or messing with fluff and wedge issues but it seems like the social security debate is once again heating up, which one could argue is just another wedge issue. I'd say let's see what the Republicans strategy is first, but most democrats are to ***** to defend their own beliefs, and Obama loves to be muddy.

Maybe they'll just get rid of it... Right...

Obama's comments on the Muslim center/mosque, whatever the heck it is, were 100% correct, though I'm sure it will hurt him. Lots of people are pretty bigoted against Muslims, and most have a pretty poor understanding of the constitution.

It's one of those decisions that history will look kindly upon but will be frowned upon at the time, like Truman's decision to integrate the army.

You can't comment on an issue and then say it is a local issue. If it is a local issue then Obama has no business talking about it

it will, even though he had the right stance on this. Most Americans are not intelligent enough to realize that he was doing his job by protecting a constitutional right.

I think that if any politician gets hurt from the mosque controversy it will be Bloomberg. November will most be affected by the economy/unemployment.

This issue alone would only hurt his standing with anti-muslim bigots.

Notice in other circumstances we must not offend Muslims but that is not being said here. This issue is even dividing the Muslim community.

Funny how Muslims have no problem but a Christian church that was destroyed on 911 has a problem.

Ground Zero Islamic Mosque Moves Forward, Christian Church in Limbo - HUMAN EVENTS

The battle raging over the Ground Zero mosque is bringing new attention to another, less publicized controversy involving a house of worship in Lower Manhattan.

St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, which once sat right across the street from the World Trade Center, was crushed under the weight of the collapse of Tower Two on September 11, 2001. St. Nicholas was the only church to be lost in the attacks, and nine years later, while City of New York officials are busy removing every impediment to the building of the Cordoba mosque two blocks from the site, St. Nicholas’ future remains unclear.

Its yet one more act to show the Messiah's insensitivity to the feelings of real Americans. He's not a real American, so it's not surprising he doesn't understand us. He didn't watch the fourth of July fireworks when he was four, his father never took him to a baseball game when his six, the people who raised him almost universally hated the United States. What's to wonder about here?

So what if he takes a position pleasing to the muslim imams he was influenced by in his youth? Right?

But for everything he screws up, and that means everything he does, he alienates more voters. He's been so effective at alienating voters he's now cutting into his support from the Dumocrats themselves. He's setting the stage for a Hillary prmary victory in 2012.

whe you put forth crap, you ought to put forth proof. but i'm guessing you have none.

61% know they have a RIGHT to build it.
64% say they shouldn't build it.
When Obama back tracked Sat. he said they had a right to but he wasn't going to comment on the wisdom of it.
Well, duh, any grade school kid could figure out they have a right to build it.
If the Imam was serious about building bridges he would repect the majority of Americans (including moderate Muslims) who think it's a bad idea.
I'm not sure how much bigotry there is toward Muslims, but the building of that Mosque is not going to improve relations any.(just my opinion)

The left would be screaming bloody murder about the seperation of church and state if tax-payers were funding travel around the world to get funding for this church.
Yea I know, I think it's regulations and red tape bogging down the rebuilding and not funding. just sayin'...

First of all, let's look at an actual map to put this in perspective, courtesy of the Village Voice.

That's a couple blocks away from Ground Zero. I bet that within that same radius, there are at least 20 churches and synagogues. So why is this a problem? Muslims don't have the same religious freedom that Christians and Jews have?

The same rights as the greek church that was destroyed on 911 yet they are not being allowed to rebuild.

Is that because of some zoning/security reason, or is it because it's a Greek church?

What does it matter? Why not the president defending a church that actually has a right to be there. Maybe because they are Christian they do not count.

It's because negotiations for land fell through. Has exactly jack and **** to do with it being a church. From the actual sound of it, they got greedy, asked for too much, and the Port Authority said no.

No the port authority is dictating the size of the building. From my link

Trouble emerged after St. Nicholas announced its plans to build a traditional Greek Orthodox church building, 24,000 square feet in size, topped with a grand dome. Port Authority officials told the church to cut back the size of the building and the height of the proposed dome, limiting it to rising no higher than the World Trade Center memorial. The deal fell apart for goodin March 2009, when the Port Authority abruptly ended the talks after refusing to allow church officials to review plans for the garage and screening area underneath. Sixteen months later, the two sides have still not met to resume negotiations.

St. Nicholas Church’s difficulty in getting approvals to rebuild stands in stark contrast to the treatment that the developers of the proposed Cordoba mosque have received. New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg, state Atty. Gen. Andrew Cuomo, and a raft of city officials have all come out publicly in favor of building the mosque, and the city’s Landmarks and Preservation Commission recently voted unanimously to deny protection to the building currently occupying the site where the mosque is to be built.
