understood........get that degree, or at least certifications.

It's almost a guarantee, I'll be on unemployment for at least one week during the year.
I was discovering that life just simply isn't fair and bask in the unsung glory of knowing that each obstacle overcome along the way only adds to the satisfaction in the end. Nothing great, after all, was ever accomplished by anyone sulking in his or her misery.

Easier said than done right now. Definately a goal for the future to get my degree.

Personally, I have never understood the shame people feel if they apply for unemployment.

If you work hard, pay your taxes, and are a good member of the community when you have a job, then why feel ashamed to accept help from a system you helped pay for and that is set up specifically to help you in this instance?

I'm going through the process of filing for unemployment (hopefully it goes through soon, end of the month is nigh) and it's frustrating because I WANT to work, I WANT to hold down a steady job, but there are too few jobs for too many workers so some of us are going to get left out. It sucks, but thats the economy. All I can do is accept help for now and use it as long as I need it until I get a job and can get off of it.

    "Oh nothing else you sure?"

"Naw I don't need anything but a job and I'll be happy."

I went over a month without a job and it was starting to get to a point where logic had to override my pride. I got to say, I am impressed with how much I am getting, but the jobs are opening up around here, and I actually got some interviews today. So who here has had to do this as well?
I have. Only worked for five months, and that was after eight years as a housewife. Not much of anybody wants to hire me even if I am quite good at what I do. Too much of the past ten years I didn't hold a job, so.

I was on unemployment for as long as there were funds available, and now I'm not on anything. I make ends meet with my online stuff, and the help of a few friends, but something has got to give. I don't want to wind up on general assistance. I have considered going to school or seeing if I'm entitled to any training as a "displaced housewife". *despite the fact I remain married*

You can apply for federal aid such as pell grants and what not, scholarships and they now made it towards if you are in school depending on your situation you may be eligble for the benefits, at least that is what it said on the letter I got from the unemployment office.

@Hoplite I know what you are saying but man, I am constantly pissed off I'm not working. Like I seriously get angry about it. The only reason I post here so much is because after calling back places for an hour or two, going out looking for a job twice a week, and giving people my resume like a dumbass, coming here and bitching is a good pass time and way to let out agression...I guess it beats punching a hole in a wall.

I guess besides being stubborn and having to much pride its the kind of people I've known in the past to take unemployment were practically bouncing up and down knowing they could get it, instead of pissed they had to take it to get by. I know this isn't everyone, but it really drives me crazy.

I totally understand. I've broken down crying after getting in my car after bad interviews. Looking for a job is a mentally and emotionally taxing process that REALLY shakes your self-confidence and tests your patience. I've been out of work for almost six months now so I'm very familiar with the frustration.

I have not, but my wife was on unemployment for about a week and a half earlier this year when she was laid off from her job.

Nope. Although then again most places in Boston try to not hire ungrads. They tend to look for people with a bit more flexible schedules.

You have no reason to feel ashamed. You paid into the system and there's no reason to let your pride get in the way. Your entitled to it.

I wish you the best of luck man. Keep your head up.

I almost needed unemployment but in Japan there's so much red tape I got my new job before I could collect.
