Choosing freeom over slavery is "ridiculous"?

No wonder American is sliding into a slimy pit.

Yes, you're free. I'm not. I'm going to go burn my freedom papers right now with a Cohiba I stole from a Libertarian.

The basic premise of this thread and poll is false. The USA isn't anything close to being socialist. A lean toward "fascism" in the last decade or so, but a more apt description would be corporatism.

It's all a matter of perception.

It really took off after Nixon's visit to China.

I'd say never for the Socialist part of the question, and I would say (for the fascist part) it was started under (not by) Eisenhower. I blame my states most infamous senator, McCarthy, for it.

You mean like Greece and Cuba?

Socialism??
Man has quite the problem in overdoing things, and then shutting his eyes and mind when told that his ideas are not so hot.
And we all do this; otherwise, we are denying our humanity.

Would actually say it started before that. McCarthy only played on peoples fears but he was in reality a blow back to the politician of the 1920s and 1930s and even before.

As for socialist.. anyone calling the US for socialist does not understand the meaning of socialist.

Started toward economic fascism/corporatism under Theodore Roosevelt (though Lincoln did some during the Civil War, which is why I voted for him), started a little toward actual fascim during Wilson, but I think we've steered away from hyper-nationalism for the most part since then.

Our political system is a delicate balance of capitalism and socialism. IMO, we need a good shot of socialism right now; and this is what the conservatives fear..
The wealthy have had it good for quite a time , it will not hurt them to have it less good. It will be better for our nation.

I don't know. I just wish we could go back to the good ole' 19th century.

the demand that the comfortable be afflicted is inane and such actions have never comforted the afflicted. It will not make our nation better though it might make the losers, parasites, failures and other ne'er do wells feel better.

The rich should wreak vengeance on those who suggest such nonsense.

To call America socialist is really quite funny.. fascist on the other hand it looks more like. It started much earlier but Bush part duh, amplified the fascism. Just saying.

Gabriel, you do know that "Fascism" is a form of National Socialism right? It's just that you seemed to indicate that Fascism and Socialism were wholly different.

FDR definitely laid the foundation for it.

To be blunt - this is the sort of attitude that brings on revolution and war.

As you may or may not know, Mr WealthyTurtle, many people are becoming frustrated and angry about this little saying - the rich become richer; the poor - poorer.....This seems to be true..
What is the next step?

Let them eat cake, eh? Yeah, that policy always leads to a healthy society.

You know, when you're at the mercy of tyrants, it doesn't really matter if the tyrants are there above you politically or economically.

Dictionaries are a great way to settle disputes about the meanings of words. Of course, they are no doubt left leaning and agenda driven, particularly if the definition doesn't fit your idea of what it should be.

And anyway, arguing about the meanings of words is no fun when you read their actual definitions.

The rich are outnumbered and the rich are outvoiced.

Dumb and counterproductive... It's the same as asking when did you stop beating your wife, or as Bush said to Saddam, prove to us you don't have WMDs, or the classic it's his fault for not doing what I told him to do.

never confuse quantity with quality. BUt you are right-the parasites and the sloths do outbreed hard workers and producers

There are only employed and unemployed records, nothing on parasites or sloths, and the last time I looked, 130 million were employed.

those who think others have a duty to support them are parasites. Those who don't work but can are sloths.
