You're lucky to have a job during the recession. You wouldn't like just sitting around with nothing to do, believe me...

People use the word socialism like it is a boogie man. A little socialism ain't gonna hurt anybody. Just look at France, Canada, UK, Germany, Japan, South Korea. The fact that most people associate socialism with things such as wanting to be able to eat when they are old, and not having to worry about going bankrupt if they have a tooth pulled is even funnier.

When UK was with us in the Cold War were people calling them socialist just because they have the NHS? The terms socialism and fascism in our ultra-PC society are nothing but devices and scare tactics. I don't even understand why people take this **** seriously.

Also **** anybody who THINKS people want to sit around without a job. I lost my job a month ago and every goddamn day I call about 20 places, go to about 10 places a week with my resume, and practically beg people to let me work for them.

Want some unsolicited advice? Go to where you would LOVE to work, your dream job. Tell them you will work for them for free for a month. If they like you, they keep you, with pay. If not, you leave. If you show them how awesome you are, how much you add to their company, they will keep you. I have hired many people this way.

You should qualify this Poll as "for those living in the alternate Beckian reality".

Woodrow Wilson's help of getting the Federal Reserve Act passed was the beginning of the end of free markets and prosperity.

Add: I wouldn't say the US is socialist yet. Corporatist...yes.

The fed is a very complicated thing, I don't think that is the problem more than the way it is ran is the problem.

LOL "free markets" ceased to exist by the end of the 19th century. Monopoly capital dominated. At that time your ancestors were arguing that cartelization/monopolization was a good thing as it increased efficiency and was able to better absorb economic crises. With regards to this specifically, monopolization of the banking industry meant that several individuals through their control of the banking industry controlled the flow of capital of society as a whole. Calling this "free markets" is absolutely laughable. This caused global crises (i.e. 1907) which lead to a greater regulation of the banking industry and the creation of central banks worldwide.

What you're essentially arguing is the opposite of the truth as the historical record shows and is essentially historical revisionism of the most delusional type.

"I do not claim that every incident in the history of empire can be explained in directly economic terms. Economic interests are filtered through a political process, policies are implemented by a complex state apparatus, and the whole system generates its own momentum."
