I don't have a single person on ignore. I occasionally stop responding to people for awhile when they're getting on my nerves, but that's it.

Just one person. Every once in a while I peek to see if they have anything worth reading (they almost never do). Though I don't really come across their posts often enough to make ignoring them worthwhile, so the next time I peek at an OK post I'm probably taking them off.

Just so you know, mods can not be put on ignore.

I already tried it.

As you have evidently realized, there would be no point in having Mods if one was able to put them on an ignore list.

I disagree. I've been on many sites where the mods don't involve themselves in anything but the moderation of the site. If they are going to post like any other member,...we should be able to ignore them as we can the other members. They could still moderate the site using PM's and such as they most often do now.

I have 0, I don't like or dislike anyone here, how could I never met them personally. Funny we don't even have a picture of all the posters or at least the ones I see posting all I see is a typed responses. I would bet you dollars to oranges that if anyone one of us bumped into each other not knowing who each other is, we would be just as cordial as we would normally would be to strangers. We all like to be internet rambo's and intellects.

I've had many of those same thoughts before too.

Still, Have you ever attended a rally or street protest?

I picture DP as being a bit more like that. (as it generally is)

I don't know who 'those people' are either,.... but it doesn't stop each side from trying to shout the other down. And while all the shouting is going on,... you make new friends, exchange ideas and learn new things from those on your side (and accross the isle) that helps you to refine your own.

Short of the personal attacks and mischaracterizations by those who will for now go un-named,.... this place could be all right.

I see your point, and I am of the same thought. Posters here do piss me off from time to time but that said I don't dislike them. Making friends... hey I am game is a lot easier having friends than enemies.

I do hope you have yourself at the top of that list.

I do not have anyone on my ignore list.

Edit: I have an ignore list?

What is the fun in putting people on ignore?

Two. I do it because I've gotten in the habit of reading posts without seeing who wrote them first. Having them on ignore helps make sure I'm not wasting at least that much time on their nonsense.

Well judging on the number of conservatives and libertarians that a) are birthers b) believe Obama is Marxist c) Obama caused the recession d) think tax cuts bring in more revenue e) believe the "free market" is a cure all for society .. etc. My ignore list would be terribly long on this message board.

What is the point of only listening to the things you believe? It would be quite boring. But I do tire of silly semantics and bad arguments relatively quick sometimes. Others I can put up with it but that isn't always my sentiment. So I don’t have anyone on ignore.

What about the ones that a) not birthers and don't care b) believe Obama is far too left for comfort c) Think Obama didn't cause it but didn't help it and possibly worsened it d) do think tax cuts bring more revenue e) believe the closest we can get to a free market is the only morally right thing?

And if the answer is '0', do you have them on 'faux ignore'? I.e., you just don't respond to anything they say.

I take people on and off ignore. I never leave anyone on ignore for long...just long enough to give it time for them not to bug me. For instance, Ikari is a great poster. Normally. Sometimes he just devolves into the stark raving mad mess that loses the ability to comprehend anything you say to him. I put him on ignore for a week or so when that happens.

Goober has stayed on it the longest. I think I kept him there for almost a year. And whenever I take him off, it's not 5 posts of his before I realize why I keep telling myself to just leave him there.

I don't have any on my ignore list. I do have a couple who totally grate on my nerves to the point that just seeing their name irritates me. Some of them with normal names have definitely got their names crossed of my list of names that might be used on a future child of mine.

I have a few people on ignore, and it takes a lot for me to want to do that. To qualify for ignore they usually have to demonstrate consistently irrational posts while also baiting, trolling, or flaming, and the final criterion is that despite all rational attempts to debate with them they just keep spouting on with their hackery. In other words, people who end up on my ignore are people who have demonstrated at least 90% of the time that they have nothing to say that is worth reading and they are just a worthless distraction.

I mostly put them on ignore so that I can save the page views. If their posts don't take up page space then other worthwhile posts will take the space.

I'm the same. I subscribe to some degree to the saying "He who angers you, conquers you". I don't like me when I'm angry. So I disengage, and if I need a little help doing that, then I use the ignore feature.

Ok,.. so besides those who are also on my list,... who do you have?

:)

Dude, didn't you get warned for announcing the people on your list?

Yep,....

That's why I haven't posted any more of the names that I have added or removed, since.

Though I did notice others have been mentioning names.

Well, it is rather strange that you would then invite somebody to do the exact same thing you got spanked for.

Hopefully Orion has more a sense of humor and sees the joke being made,... more than he has a tendency to post names.

The Good Reverend has no one on ignore. If I don't want to deal with a poster, I just read over their post and maintain the self control not to be antagonized by such folk.

Funny thing, thinking about it most of those I skip over are actually on the further right side of the spectrum.... Funny how that works. Then again its less than a dozen on either side total.

I don't put anyone on ignore, it never helps and they still respond to things that I say, it just makes me look bad for not responding to their messages. There are certainly people that I will avoid responding to because I know it's pointless, but it's not nearly as bad here as it is on other forums.

Interesting. I have LOTS of people on ignore. My time is valuable, and I won't waste time reading horsepoop. Why I said "interesting," was because I dont' care if someone thinks I look bad for not acknowledging a response to my post. The people I put on ignore have insulted me on a regular basis, so (1) why would I care what they say in response to something I say and (2) what are the chances that the response is an insult. Yeah, high.

Oh, and I can live with people thinking poorly of me for not responding to a post. I sometimes forget where I posted.

I am totally interested in reading arguments that go against my own, but not when they are argued blindly or made with the intent to flame. Sorry, I'm not wasting my time.

I have nobody on ignore. To do so is to empower them, and to show that you cannot initiate proper point-counterpoint.

If you can't defend your position rationally and coherently, you may as well shut your mouth. You'll be made a fool of.
