Just those who make money based on their looks or are in the public eye.

Not really. There are plenty of less attractive women who have been successful in show business as well. There is pressure on both of the sexes to sell an image, moreso in the modern day now that we have TVs and computers etc. But overall I don't really see any reason to believe that the pressure to be attractive applies more to women than to men.

Really? best actor oscar for the last 10 years Russell Crowe,Denzel Washington,Adrien Brody,Sean Penn, Jamie Foxx,Philip Seymour Hoffman,Forest Whitaker,Daniel Day-Lewis,Sean Penn and Jeff Bridges. Best actress oscar for the last 10 years Julia Roberts,Halle Berry,Nicole Kidman,Charlize Theron, Hilary Swank,Reese Witherspoon,Helen Mirren,Marion Cotillard,Kate Winslet,Sandra Bullock.

There are attractive people on both list but its very clear the female list all attractive women and Helen mirran is the most attractive older person you could possibly get to play the queen.

Actually, nobody on your list- male or female- would be likely to win any beauty contests. Especially against the rest of young Hollywood.
Good looks do not assure one success in life- especially in the entertainment industry, where the standards are higher- but ugliness is definitely a handicap, in any field.

None of those ladies are gonna win an ugly contest.They are all beautiful women.
 
I don't judge women on looks so it's entirely irrelevant. I'm not really interested in any of the ones posted in the thread because it's just cheap, short-term looks, in 20 years they won't look anything like that and anyone who is only interested in looks is tremendously shallow.

Yeah, well, lady gaga is pretty much the most popular singer these days and I think she's pretty ugly, or very plain at best... aside from all the silly costumes, that is. And look at Oprah...she made it big (understatement) on TV. There are others.

I disagree. Even on a small scale, everybody is judged by their looks. I do it and I am not superficial and far from your normal guy... and if people are honest, they do as well. You see a person and make a judegement even if at a subconscious level, especially of the opposite sex. judgements can be about whether you want to sleep with them, their class, their education, their background and all sorts of other things. Looks are the first thing a person sees, obviously...

Where is Brad Pitt, Christian Bale, Johnny Depp, Matt Damon, etc? There are those on both your lists that are very attractive and those that are not...

At 18, Oprah was crowned Miss Black Tennessee.
Her good looks got her a lucrative news anchor job at 19, and from there she was on her way.
Gaga is fairly blah-faced, but most people think she's got a nice body, and nobody can really see what she looks like anyway, so it wouldn't matter if her face was ugly or pretty.
Half the time she's wearing some kind of mask or veil, and the rest of the time she's got so much paint on her face you can't really see what it looks like.
 


Vasquez was too awesome, and more attractive than any of the ones in the OP(and played by a Jewish woman who now runs a store for plus sized bra's).

1. I didn't know that. Interesting.
2. Are you sure it was just her looks that got her that job? I'm sure they could have found someone better looking. I don't deny her looks played a role, however, media/show business is that way for obvious reasons... but that also doesn't necessarily mean that the standard is automatically more stringent for women than men. Her appearance, which in my opinion must have deteriorated over time, certainly haven't kept her down in the biz.

Right, so her looks don't play so much of a role, especially in comparison to the other women out there... that was my point exactly.

Avril has that "I'd be great in the sack" look that'd be fun after a night at the bar or a party but probably not something that'd jump out at you if you were looking for something meaningful.

Taylor Swift is the absolute opposite of this. Cute, pretty and wholesome looking that seems like she'd be fun to be with for a good while.

I've always thought Shania Twain was pretty attractive. I forget what CD it is that I think my mom had at the house, but I think on the back there was this picture of her in these skin tight purple pants that is great and hell I'm not even normally a leg guy.

Emma Watson's just kind of creepy in a way similar to the Olsen Twins, Hillary Duff, etc where you first saw them as kids so when you hit the place of "Damn they kind of look good" its like "....that's just wrong." But seriously, British sounding accent plus constant school girl outfit, that's just not fair.
 
Oh, and if you're going the same general idea of Avril and Swift with the whole young, not exactly biggest name, musician thing...give me Haley Williams.

Thats like saying its sad that food is still judged by looks. You might even go further and say it doesnt matter how a persons hygine is.... it just matters what is in their heart.

Looks matter! And for ME... so does their personality. Lets take Lindsay Lohan. She can be quite attractive and seems to be a decent actor but I wouldnt give her the time of day. In fact because of her personality, she is repulsive.
 
Speaking of the beautiful women of country, Faith Hill is somewhere in the top two.
