Those people were radical. But on the flip side, some people like to assert that all Muslims are radical.

Well, it's up to you to decide what "radical" means and answer the question. I don't believe all Muslims are radical. Only the ones who want to murder anyone who isn't a Muslim.

But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

I would say that extremist, radical or any kind of fanatical behaviour would not make a good American or good anything... And that goes for any and all other religious belief as well who lean toward extremism !!

One of the beliefs some (all?) of those you describe hold is that everyone should die or become Muslims.

If someone believed instead that everyone should become a Muslim, but killing those who did not was going to far...would they still be radical enough for you to consider them "bad americans"?

I remember that day well. I also recalled when I was going to university(1995) in my anthropology classes watching some documentaries on Islam in the middle east. I thought then (when in university)" something will come out of all this and it will be bad. " When I first saw the video of the planes crashing into the buildings I thought "oh another movie clip" but then I realized I was watching streaming live video from a news cast. I couldn't believe it. Everyone just stopped working.. people went home in the middle of the day. It truly was a terrible thing to see.. for real.

If they just thought everyone should be Muslim but didn't try to force anyone through threats or torture or murder, that would be fine. Most Christians I know would like everyone to be Christian because they believe it's the right way.

There is radicalism among atheists too. Radicalism isn't a problem only theists have.
Non belief that is founded on empirical data is not ideological. It's like saying.. if you don't believe 1+1=3 your some kind of insane ideologue.

I was in college at chapel that morning. Before it all started I heard someone talking about planes flying into towers and I thought they were talking about a movie. Not until the President of my college got up and told us all what happened did I realize....classes were cancelled. Everyone was gathered around the common TV just staring....barely any speaking...just watching the news in horror.

It is ironic we both thought "movie".
