No. It equals: "Let's give voters a better opportunity to cast their vote."

Someone will need to make their fries, steaks, cappuccinos... someone will need to work the register at the bowling alleys and skating rinks, and all those places where people go to have fun.
Someone will have to tend the bars. Someone will have to wait tables for the families that go out to eat to celebrate "Election Day 20??"
And let me tell you, folks who work these jobs are the "working poor".
No way, make it mandatory that all people must be off of work.

    Oops.

    That's exactly what should happen.

That's fine for the companies that do, but what about federal employess that will be paid for this holiday and not work?
What about federal employees? If this is a mandatory holiday, they will have to be paid to not work.
I also think it should be on a Saturday and Sunday and not Thursday. Just because its a manditory day off doesn't mean it has to be paid.

    Unrealistic.

That would stop the entire economy.
If Christmas isn't important enough for a lot of people to stay home, voting is way less important.

I think it would be a good thing personally. Ramp up rhetoric with regards to the event it may let people take more time to deal with the issues.

At least it might be something they try for a few elections to see how it works? If it does not help voter turnout and create a more informed event.. cancel it. Would some consider that?

It would seem to be a perfectly good idea considering how central the roll of democracy is in a .. democracy.

    We aren't in a democracy.

We are in a democratic republic

    It's actually on Tuesday.

If it's not going to be a paid day, then no one will want to take it off. If you're worried about working people, how many do you think will willingly give up a day's pay for something they were either going to do anyways, or not going to do anyways?
