And to the republic, for which it stands

Sooo.... America. Uh huh. So, it tells them that it's the US flag. Something that's completely doable without a totalitarianism "pledge".

I'd love to know how many 6 yr olds know what 'republic' is anyway. Hell, my 13 yr old niece doesn't. But they do know what the US flag looks like, and that didn't require a ****ing pledge to teach them.
 
Some public schools (like mine) still recite the pledge as a class in the mornings. Some do not.

Should it be mandatory that all public schools recite the Pledge?

Making anything 'mandatory' suggests there will be punishment for not doing it.

By punishing someone for *not* saying something - we're infringing on the 1st Amendment.
