Survey: 4 in 10 say Jesus is coming back by 2050 – Religion - CNN.com Blogs
The Pew Research Center for the People & the Press released a new survey this week that looks at the year 2050. Of note to followers of the Belief Blog is 41% of people surveyed believe Jesus is coming back by the year 2050.

"...the public is divided over whether Jesus Christ will return to earth by 2050. About four-in-ten (41%) expect Jesus Christ to return while slightly more (46%) say this will definitely or probably not happen. Opinions about the return of Jesus Christ are little changed from 1999 when 44% said it would definitely or probably happen."

Simple question: Do you believe that Jesus Christ will return before your death?

It's possible. Christians have believed that Jesus would return in their lifetime from the very beginning. If he's coming back at all, one generation is eventually going to have to be right-- and there's no reason for it not to be ours.

How is this debatable?

Yeah I don't think Jesus is ever returning..maybe when pigs fly.

I wonder just what area this poll was conducted in.. I'd be willing to bet at least 7/10 Alabamians believe Jesus will be back by 2050. While that number is probably around the 2s in Oregon. Just based of off my personal experience from living in both places for a extended period of time.

The Bible is clear that no human being knows when the Second Coming will occur. Therefore I have no idea.

It could be next year, ten years, two hundred years, ten thousand years.... or it could be today.

Won't know until it happens. Anyone who claims with any certainty to know when, is either self-deluded or a fraud.

No idea when it could happen.
No human has that knowledge, it could be tomorrow. 100 years, 1000 years from now. Only Allah has that knowledge.

Although the signs the Qu'ran and Hadiths speak of has not occurred

Muslims believe that Christ will return?

Wow, you think we'd be able to find a little common ground then.

"Returning"????

That would imply reliable evidence of having actually existed and been here before. I've yet to see any.

The idea of who Jesus is and what he represents is very different between Christians and Muslims. While they both claim him, they see him very differently and in incompatible ways.

Yeah, I know. But you'd think there would be a little more of a agree to disagree type thing. Or maybe thats a little too far reaching for religious beliefs?

I would say its too far reaching for ideology in general.

Incompatible ways isn't quite right. Both Christians and Muslims think of him as the Messiah. There may be minor differences, but fundamentally the views are very similar. Most major world religions, are in fact, very similar. If only the followers would open their views a little and see that.

I don't think one side seeing Jesus as God and the other seeing the idea of Jesus being God to be a horrible blasphemy is a minor difference.

Pretty much all the details of Christ are the same between the Bible and the Qur'an. Christians believe him to be the son of God and Muslims believe he was chosen by God. While Christians believe he was resurrected from death and rose to heaven, Muslims believe he rose to heaven without death. Both believe he will return to combat the Anti-Messiah. The details of his birth and life are basically the same. So, while there are differences, the greater body of belief is the same. Overall, I would agree that the belief differs, but wouldn't say they were incompatible.
