May be a tough choice, but choose one you care MOST about.

To make things more interesting, list the top ones you would choose in a post. Feel free to add anything I didn't include.

For me:
1. The planet / ecosystem as a whole
2. The human race as a whole
3. My family and friends
4. Myself
5. My country

You got the order wrong. You may think to yourself that it's right, but it really isn't.
#4 comes first for absolutely everyone.
#3 comes second for pretty much all decent people.

Myself, family, friends, and people I work with.

Distant second and beyond...
My state
My country
My religion

Well we need a planet and ecosystem in order to sustain life.
And we need the human race to thrive in order to survive longer and create an atmosphere where our kids and grand kids can survive.

So yes family, friends and myself are very important to me.

So that YOU can survive.

To preserve YOUR genes.

It is a hard question!
I am hovering between 'the human race as a whole' and 'my family and friends'.

Caring about the human race as a whole might be way too energy consuming, and almost a lost cause and many humans dont care about me or my issues or my family, so I should tune out the world and just concentrate on myself and my family. But, I do care about the human race without wanting to, which is why I take an interest in politics.

OK, I voted 'the human race as a whole'.

I care more about my family and friends than I do myself, so my ranking is:

1. My family and friends
2. Myself

followed by:

3. My state as a whole
4. My country as a whole
5. My country and our allies
6. The planet / ecosystem as a whole

I am not worried about the human race as a whole, cause we are dominant and continue to grow. The planet covers food and water supplies for the human race.

1) Myself.
2) Family&Close friends, equally
3) Human race
4) Country
5) Planet Earth

And the rest couldn't really matter.

My family and friends, hands down. As long as there are enough other people for my family and friends to breed with, the rest of the whole human species could rot for all I care.

I think that people tend to mislead themselves when they believe that anything's existence could actually come before them in their lives.
After all the reason why we want our family, friends, planet, etc to live on is because we want them all in our lives.

Myself
Family/friends/Clan
My country
My religion and its followers
Then everything else.

Myself and family are probably equally first, sometimes I might put family first, that seems to be a problem being a Mum.

then friends

then my country

then the planet ecosystem as a whole as well as the human race as a whole.

Whichever was most urgent would get my attention.

Without a doubt my family and myself come first.

Everything else can be interchangeable for certain and specific reasons.

You didn't get that choice, it was a "or" question. ;)

My family first, although myself would be pretty close for second. My friends would actually be third. Then the planet/ecosystem. Mankind and country would be the next choices.

cant answer the question because depending on the circumstance the answer changes

Myself first. Because without caring about myself first, it would be impossible for me to care about anyone or anything else. And, I care about other people and other things because it benefits me to do so. Really, Myself and Family and friends would be pretty much grouped together as far as I'm concerned.

So:
Myself
Family and friends
My country as a whole because it benefits the above two

BINGO!!!!

Years ago I would have picked Self first. But think about it this way: would you lay down and die for your family and friends? Would you put them ABOVE yourself? If so? Then the answer should be family and friends above all else.

Realistically, yes I would be willing to sacrifice myself or my well being for the well being of those I cared about.

However, I still think self comes first. If you are to truly contribute to society, experience life, and interact with other humans, you must maintain your own well being above all else. Somtimes I would have picked the second option, but if you were to die tomorrow and look back at your life and sum it up, it would be yourself that was most important.
