Depends on the Atheist in question.

What if he/she is a completely illogical individual who believes in all the conspiracy theories out there - and an atheist as well?

Would you vote for that person over, say, an individual who was a devout Christian and factored the values they acquired from that belief into their decisions?

Nah...Id have no problem voting for an agnostic...someone who didnt know...didnt claim to know...didnt care to know...but probably not an athiest. Most athiests I know are dicks. They are as idiotic about their zealous non-religous dogma as their zealous religous counterparts.

Of course it is all based on some phantom that no one can quantify. Further religion has a thick collectivist mentality. For example drawing pictures of Muhammad is completely unacceptable to Islam and they feel even if you don’t believe in their religion .. your still not allowed to draw this character. Further reasoning that religion should not indoctrinate children into their said cult whichever it is. Atheist in general find this very offending. So getting these groups to be civil with one another is a bit like trying to get oil and water mixed.
I believe in God, though I'm far from devout. Further, I feel that if you choose to believe in something else or nothing at all, that's your business. I disagree that you think that Parents shouldn't teach their children about their religions....once they get old enough to decide for themselves they will. Personally I've seen far more disparaging remarks made by atheists to the religious than I have the opposite. You just made one in your post. When it comes to matters of faith, there are plenty of things I disagree with, but I try to do it respectfully. Most atheists I know...most, not all.....don't bother with the same courtesy.

Assuming that they weren't fanatics about it, and that their political beliefs were in line with mine, then definitely.

I think plenty of politicians are atheists. I have nothing to support this but I wouldn't be surprised if most are. My guess is we've all already voted for atheists even at high levels without it being known. It's just that the climate is such that anyone running for higher office has to say they believe in something.

I didn't mean to imply that an Athiets would automatically have policies that make sense... sorry for bad wording.

Just meant IF an athiest ran with policies that make sense that weren't ordained by god, such as some Christain Right wingers that want to legislate morality on various subjects.
