The black community votes by a large portion for democrats anyway. Further, a fair number of people voted against him because he is black.
It is a big deal. He is the first president who is not white.
Seeing how many people made a huge deal out of race I seriously doubt that. If a fair number of people voted against him because he is black then why do you think that only a insignificant amount of people voted for him because of the color of his skin? That does not mean that people in any significant numbers voted for him because he was black.
Well, the white extremist groups are clearly not that up in arms...he's still President.
Some threats to Mr Obama, whose Secret Service codename is Renegade, have been publicised, including an alleged plot by white supremacists in Tennessee late last year to rob a gun store, shoot 88 black people, decapitate another 14 and then assassinate the first black president in American history.

again everyone in contention was white so they got no advantage over every other contender
stop your bloodclot crying its silly
What inspired this thread? Do we really need yet another thread bitching about Obama's election based on the same GOP talking points from 2008? You're about 18 months late, Caine. Does this thread serve any purpose other than race-baiting?
Short and Simple..........
Would you vote for him??????
Obama got elected through a massive and very succesful marketing campaign.
I always find it amusing how I am told time and again the only reason I voted for Obama was because he was black. I wonder how they know that, and I, who made the decision, thought I had based it on completely different reasons.
Obama didn't win because he was black. People were tired of the Bush era of politics and simply didn't want McCain.
I don't know of a single person who voted for Obama because he is black, nor do I know anyone who even took his race into consideration when they voted for him.
People didn't vote for Obama because he is black.
They voted for a man with a vision and plan who happened to be black.

okay, I'm ready to start tap dancing around what is being asked, and what has already been asked. Do you believe Obama's race factored favorably into his winning the 2008 election?
Uhh yes it does when you consider that 95% of the black community voted for Wonderboy.
Harry Truman won 100% of the black vote.
Harry Truman also didnt have more than a high school education.

Clinton won something like 96%.
Obama won about 90%.
Turtle. Do you realize the lack of logic of this statement in how it pertains to your argument? You just said that every contender was both equal AND WHITE. You have also said that no black person could have been elected during those other elections. That pretty much equates to blacks having a racial disadvantage in those elections, and NOT having equal footing.
And I disagree.
I believe a great number of people voted for Obama because he is black.
When both candidates sucked on the issues.... what is going to be your selling point? Your character.
I voted for McCain because he is a veteran of a war, and has sacrificed much. Because that is something that I can relate to.
Where have I said that this is necessarily a bad thing?
Anyone?
He also served under one of the greatest Presidents in US history, FDR. He had a good mentor.

DING DING DING DING DING.
We have a winner.
Barack Obama got millions of people out to the polls to vote for him, who normally would not have left home on election night, not because of his ideas, but because many people reacted to the color of his skin. Because either they self-identified with him, or because they had 'white guilt' as member 1069 likes to call it, or because they thought it was their duty to be involved in a historical event.
To those that didnt vote for one of the above mentioned reasons, I concede that Obama did a good job of propagandizing a slogan that made people view he was actually going to take the country in a different direction than President Bush, who most Americans, even conservatives, were quite pissed off at.
