Are you ****ing kidding? Being white didn't get you specific advantages? Did you forget about that whole civil rights movement thingie?

Because there were no black applicants because they would not have been accepted and/or because they didn't receive a good education in segregated schools.

This is ****ing retarded. How can you possibly say that being black helped Obama get into law school in the 1980s while denying that being white helped Ike get into West Point in the 1910s? I think you know damn well this isn't true, and you're just in a trolling mood tonight.

whites are the vast majority

you still don't understand that point

Ike got no advantage over the vast majority of applicants to WP by being white

Obama got a big advantage over the vast majority of people applying to law school

are you being dense?

Because...Affirmative Action and similar racist programs didn't get Ike into West Point. He got in because he was QUALIFIED, and yes, he was white and that was also a "qualification" of sorts; it doesn't not however mean he was lacking in the other merits/qualifications for entrance to West Point.

If I may summarize what you're saying here: "Racial advantages are bad only if the race in question is a minority race." :doh
Please, just stop digging yourself in deeper.

If you saddle your competition with DISADVANTAGES, then that IS an advantage. Don't be ridiculous.

:doh
Just stop talking. Please. I've already lost so much respect for you tonight. :doh

YOu are a feeler not a thinker

I couldn't care less if you respect me or not

you are demonstrating you really don't think things through

Obama's race is what got him the presidency

True or false: NOT A SINGLE ONE of the 42 guys preceding Obama would have been president if they were black.

I have never said racial advantages are good

I was pointing out that when the vast majority of qualified candidates for a certain job have the same race, being of that race is no advantage

in 1952 the only people who could become President were white and yes, if Ike were black he'd never be general of the armies let alone president but he got no advantage over everyone who was in contention

Obama did get big advantages over the majority applying to Harvard-ie whites

again everyone in contention was white so they got no advantage over every other contender

stop your bloodclot crying its silly

I don't know why, but I'm staring at this and the logic is staring right back at me, but then I try to read his interpretation of what you're saying...and, my brain just wants to shut down.

If your race is able to monopolize the process and prevent others from becoming "qualified candidates" in the first place, that's an advantage.

So in other words, Ike's race led to his election as president. Hmm, how about that. Sounds just like Obama. Remind me what you're bitching about again.

Do I need to play social studies teacher? Why do you think there weren't any non-whites in contention for the presidency in 1952 (or for five-star general in the 1940s, or for West Point in the 1910s)? Because blacks were stupid and lazy?

It doesn't matter whether you cut off the competition at the last level (i.e. the application process for that particular job/college) or an earlier level (i.e. a decent education to earn the qualifications for that job/college). Either way, it puts the oppressed race at a disadvantage, and it puts the dominant race at an advantage.

But if whites had been systematically denied an education that would enable them to compete for spots at Harvard Law in the first place, that would be A-OK with you and Obama wouldn't have any particular advantage over the other black applicants. Right?

I'm sorry, you think he's justifying racism, and discrimination in the past...no, that's not what either of us are trying to do. Does that clear things up at all?

What Kandahar is saying is that the repeated societal and racial advantages white presidential candidates have had, has guaranteed the elections of 'white' people. In contrast, the election of a single black man to office is not enough to determine whether or not he was elected simply because he was black.

I will ask again since you totally ignored it. Would you support the black candidate if he were a Conservative Republican (ie. Mark Blackwell) over the lilly white Liberal??

I always find it amusing how I am told time and again the only reason I voted for Obama was because he was black. I wonder how they know that, and I, who made the decision, thought I had based it on completely different reasons.

Obama didn't win because he was black. People were tired of the Bush era of politics and simply didn't want McCain.

I don't know of a single person who voted for Obama because he is black, nor do I know anyone who even took his race into consideration when they voted for him.

People didn't vote for Obama because he is black.

They voted for a man with a vision and plan who happened to be black.

I know a **** load of black people that did.

Of course they would have voted for a donkey if it was running against Bush.

It's a 10 page thread and I tend to not respond to people who I don't consider to be veterans of the board.

I'm not a Conservative and I do not agree with most Conservative policies. So why would I vote for a Conservative of any color? I didn't vote(actually, I didn't vote at all) for Obama because I believe his vision was way too big for most people in this country. I even made a thread on the matter. I don't even know who Mark Blackwell is to be honest. Ken Blackwell you mean?

It's Howard Stern, it's Harlem, and it's audio...not saying this is everyone, but I don't think anyone can say that there weren't people who voted for him just because he is black.

Oh look another thread where someone thinks Obama was elected because he was black.

Two words: overdone and LATE.

The media and a whole lot of people seemed to make a big deal out of the fact Obama was black(or half black). So why does it seem impossible that people voted for Obama merely because he was the first viable black candidate? When you consider the fact that a lot of twits voted for Obama because they thought that they didn't have to worry about the bills, mortgage payments or that Obama was going to get the troops out of Afghanistan or for "change" any other misconceptions or stupid reason then surely there were a bunch of idiots who voted for something as stupid as race.

It is a big deal. He is the first president who is not white. That does not mean that people in any significant numbers voted for him because he was black.

Uhh yes it does when you consider that 95% of the black community voted for Wonderboy.

The black community votes by a large portion for democrats anyway. Further, a fair number of people voted against him because he is black.
