if i can, i'll take the "ignore it and it'll go away" stance or i lock myself up with really loud music and a good book

I find myself grinding my teeth. A lot. Guess that's why God invented the Night Guard. :chew:

Also, escapism via the internet or reading.

Hey, I have a night guard too! Anxiety can be a real bitch.

Depends on the type of stress.

I was unfortunate enough to inherit my father's outrageous anxiety; I've learned to deal with it for the most part, but generally when I get into an acutely stressful situation (i.e. some kind of crisis) I'll initially panic for a second or stress out so much that I can't think about anything else or function, then I'll be able to get my head into it and consciously push it aside to some extent, at which point I'll be fine for the most part.

I meditate a lot, which has really helped me clear my mind on command or adjust my focus precisely, and I've done enough over the years and read enough where I think I have a pretty good handle on controlling my feelings, including the anxiety.

Oh yeah. Forgot to mention music.

heh... seems most people's definition of stress and my definition of stress are two entirely different things.

For the most part, I step away from the situation and look at everything objectively in order formulate a plan of "attack" to deal with whatever it is that stresses me out. This could be considered a "fight" response, but it's rarely aggressive.

Once I have a plan of attack in place, I get started on it. I find that doing something about it is far less stressful than dwelling upon it.

In cases where the stressor cannot be "dealt with", I find some way to release the frustration I feel in a more productive manner than internalizing them. (i.e. hitting a heavy bag like Goshin does or making jokes on an internet forum )

It all depends.

Not all stress is the same.

So I handle different stresses in different ways,...

I'm sure everyone else does this too.

Oh yeah, or I punch stuff.

Be careful, or you'll end up like my brother here:

That big bump on his hand is his displaced metacarpal bone that snapped in half when he got mad and punched a wall. :doh

Holy ****. Worst I've done is bruised my knuckles.

Stress is the wrong term. These responses apply to being attacked (Fight, flight, etc.).

I would fight, based upon history.

Stress is the confusion created, when the mind overrides the body's natural impulse to strangle the **** out of some asshole who desperately deserves it.

Exercise, going into wilderness, meditating, etc.

If something is a source of high stress for a pro-longed period of time I try to cut it out of my life. I've quit jobs in the past because they were too stressful. I don't put up with it.

Yes, exercise is really good for relieving stress.

Excessive stress used to take me to the point of really serious depression. After rebooting and installing new software, it now passes through, above, and around me and goes on its merry way.;)

What is your typical response to stress?

When I get stressed I have to occupy myself with something physically strenuous. . . having DIY projects is great, however, they're also a source of stress.

The Tazer....

Here's what's really sad: That doesn't really look all that bad to me.

Believe me, about the only way that could be worse is if the bone had punctured through the skin. He's got to have surgery and will be wearing pins in his hand for some time while it heals (the surgery hasn't taken place yet because they discovered he has a heart arrhythmia that needed evaluation by a cardiologist and also his insurance at his new job hasn't gone into effect yet, so he has to get approval to have the surgery at the county hospital). It's not normally his nature to do stuff like this, so it's kinda shocking that it happened at all.
