I have never been much into mainstream music. I prefer music that is more out there, angrier, edgier. That music more speaks to my soul.

I'm a big fan of modern rock and alternative. I dislike most rap and pop, but there are a few songs I like alright occasionally. I can't stand country.

    It sucks out loud.

I predict that within 10 years a computer will have a number one hit and a Grammy.

**** Cher and Madonna for making that autotuner popular.

We are already seeing signs of it.

New Music Software Predicts The Hits : NPR

Once this technique is perfected, I think we will see computers start making music based on these calculations in fairly short order. This means mainstream music will become even more vanilla and unsurprising than it was previously.

Gimme industrial, at least that music has an experimental and exploratory element within it.

Most of the mainstream stuff that passes for music is ****. I listen to Metal, DMX, Cypress Hill, Rammstein, Das Ich and some Electronic groups (The Crystal Method, Prodigy).

I don't mind it. I used to be one of those people who thought that if it wasn't heavy metal or something close to it then it is crap.Today my mind is more open to different kinds of music everything from country to rap. That said I still mostly listen to talk radio when I am in the car, radio stations tend to play the same **** over and over and over again.

As for MTV, I don't think it's even fair to call it "Music TV" anymore. They play a music videos sometimes yes.. but for the most part it's full of 'reality' shows.
I think they should change it to DARSTV(Dumb ass reality shows television) or maybe change the "M" in MTV to mean moron instead of music. The fact that they are even allowed to call themselves MTV as in music television is laughable. MTV was one of the reasons I got cable so that I could listen to headbangers ball and then they stopped showing that and eventually it seems like they do not show music anymore.

"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

Not sure. One thing I am curious about is if this algorithm is teachable. Music preference tends to change over time, even if slightly and something like this would need to be recalibrated as a result.

However, since the music industry wants to be able to make a profit on a sure bet, I am pretty sure that if this technology is proven to work, they will start using it very quickly and I think it would probably shut out any music that does not follow the specific format.

The **** that is on the radio today is roughly the equivalent to the **** that was on the radio in 1980. The good **** isn't usually on the radio.
