Illegally move to a country because I admire its adherance to law, order and the integrity of its courts? Hmm, seems like I'd be undercutting myself there.

So, in a hypothetical situation, suppose country A has laws that greatly restrict immigration, and those laws are strictly enforced.

At the same time, country A has a policy of killing all persons of Asian heritage it can get its hands on.

Due to the policy of country A, country B, which is predominantly composed of persons with Asian heritage, decides that it should go to war with country A, as country A is a threat to a large portion of its populous.
Not to mention, country A’s obvious and blatantly apparent genocidal tendencies.

If country B proceeds to invade country A, obviously violating its immigration laws, would you be against such?

It's just as "OK" to come here illegally as it is "OK" to hire someone that's here illegally. Many of these so-called "illegals" were invited here and promised a job if they came. Who committed the biggest crime? a US citizen that knew it was illegal to hire and exploit cheap undocumented labor, or the laborer that may not have even known he was breaking our laws. Most of these workers came here while the Bush administration was giving a wink and a node to employers that knew they would not have to face any concequences for hiring illegals. They were running adds in Mexico for workers to come. If we just control the crimes commited by our citizens, the workers would have no choice but to go back home. But that's too easy for republicans. They want to put the monkey on the worker's back and blame it on boarder security. Jut more stink caused by the republicans that now hold their noses and point to someone else.

I don't play stupid, way out hypotheticals. Under 99.9999999 % of situations, being in a country illegally is not OK. Period.

what about as refugees, in Australia, we have a problem with middle eastern and Tamil refugees arriving illegally by boat from Indonesia to seek asylum, is it OK for them to enter our territory illegally to seek refuge?

Okay, so if your people were being targeted for genocide, you would just die rather then illegally enter a neighboring country to escape the genocidal maniacs trying to kill you?

That's basically what you're telling me.

You do realize that a large percentage of refugees across the planet are illegals fleeing from war no? Nations generally don't prosecute or send them back for such reasons.

Genocide: basically, if there are no countries that will take you, then it sucks to be you. How often does that happen where no other country will take refugees fleeing genocide?

I don't see anything morally wrong with entering a foreign country illegally. However, doing so does not obligate the foreign government to you in any fashion-- and it would be well within its prerogatives to jail you, deport you, or even execute you for violating its territory.

It's up to each country to decide for itself how it wishes to handle refugees and immigrants, and to enforce its own policies.

Mostly with Mega here if we're taking the OP at face value and not trying to play ignorant and expand it beyond what he seemingly is obviously speaking about.

If we're going with the broad stroke statement then of course "it depends" is the answer. However, if we're going off that there's really no REAL discussion to be had aside from arguing with those who are taking it for its seeming implication rather than a broad literalistic reading.

"Okay" as in legally? Well no, the very notion of it being entering "illegally" means its not okay from a legal sense.

From a moral sense? Even in the more implied reading of the question that is up in the air. That said, something can be morally right but legally wrong and that doesn't mean either is incorrect. Sometimes the law must act without emotion so as to put a measure of fairness and consistancy above all.

    by Graham Nash

There I was at the immigration scene
    Shining and feeling clean
    Could it be a sin?
I got stopped by the immigration man
He says he doesn't know if he can
Let me in-let me in-immigration man
Can I cross the line and pray
    I can stay another day
    Let me in immigration man
I won't toe your line today
    I can't see it anyway

There he was with his immigration face
    Giving me a paper chase
    But the sun was coming
Cos all at once he looked into my space
And stamped a number over my face
    And he sent me running
Let me in-let me in-immigration man
Can I cross the line and pray
    I can stay another day
    Let me in immigration man
I won't toe your line today
    I can't see it anyway

Here I am with my immigration form
It's big enough to keep me warm
    When a cold wind's coming
    So go where you will
So long as you think you can
    You'd better watch out-watch out-for the man
    Anywhere you're going.

Won't you let me in immigration man
Can I cross your line and pray
Take your fingers from the tray
    Let me in-irritation man
I won't toe your line today
    I can't see it anyway.
