    Best Pet

Which animal makes the best pet and why?

I prefer cats. They tend to be low maintenance and they usually do not stink. Plus they can be quite affectionate and playful.

i'd choose birds and lizards, of all the pets i've had my favourites were my budgie and my two blue tongued lizards

I voted "fish" because I'm mad at my cat right now for clawing the furniture. He never clawed stuff before and always used his scratching post. Now that he's turned 9 years old, he's acting like a bad young cat all of a sudden.

    Re: Best Pet

If I were retired I would say dog. But given my schedule dogs are far too high maintenance. It's almost like having a kid. So I have to go with cat. My cats pretty much take care of themselves. So I guess "depends" is the answer.

Cats, followed by fish. Cats are the perfect pet in that they are highly trainable, extremely loyal, and independent. A well taken care of aquarium is beautiful, full of life, and the sound is soothing. Some day when I have more money, I so want a mini-reef aquarium, nothing is more spectacular looking.

    Cool Re: Best Pet

I would like pet rock. One small enough to throw at other people's pets,... but large enough that I can rely on it to do a good job of discouraging their return.

I boycott this poll for lacking the option "Monkey".
Having a monkey pet is right on the top of my to do list in this life.

    They're just so ****ing awesome.

Cats, if anything, are the most disloyal pets there are.

They see you as a walking heat source, not an owner and certainly not a friend.

They are not dogs, for sure. Dogs instinctively live in a pack and are loyal and protective of it. Cats don't. Cats are far more independent. But my cats will always seek me out no matter how many people are in the room and I do think they see me as a "friend" (using that term loosely given they are animals). And they are very affectionate. They even greet me like a dog would when I get home. But no, they are not dog loyal. On the other hand they are exponentially lower maintenance than a dog, so there is a trade off.
Wow. Am I awesome or what?
