Manx cats are the best hands down.

My favorite cat was a manx and so is my second favorite.

This is my cat Joe. He is somewhat doglike, he follows me around the house. He can be very demanding of my attention and likes to cuddle almost any time I sit down. He was feral for three days when he and his brothers were left behind when people moved. He is almost 2 now and a total sweetheart.

Some cats make great pets. Others...my other cat Stella, I call Joe's cat because I got her as a kitten to keep him company. She does not respond much to people, maybe because Joe mostly raised her instead of me. It can be aggravating though, how disinterested she is.

Bird - not much enjoyment there for me. And it seems very cruel to me to cage a bird

Fish - Lots of upkeep here, for minimal enjoyment (IMO)

Hamster/Gerbil - Never had much luck with these guys. They tend to bite, and they're not really fun to "play" with. Not really entertaining

Rabbit - Maybe some are okay, but ditto above. Couldn't really play with them and the two we had were just plain mean.

Pig - My mother insists that her pig pet was better than any dog she'd had. Smarter and cleaner too.

Lizard/Snake - I would love to have a snake. Been wanting a boa to use in belly dancing for some time. However, they require a lot of attention and very specific environments in order to thrive.

So, it's a toss up for me between a cat and a dog. I love both for different reasons. Cats are fricken awesome. SOOOO low maintenance. I can leave one alone for quite some time with no issues. They're cuddly, independent, don't demand all of my attention all the time, but love it when they get it. When my cat was a kitten, he used to sleep with me and purr me to sleep. I miss that as he's grown to adulthood.

I completely disagree about loyalty. I had my cat from a kitten, but had to let my folks take care of him for a few years when I was moving around a lot. When I visited home, though, he would come to ME and get on my lap. He rarely - if ever - got on anyone elses lap for affection. I have him at my place now and he's a different cat than he was at my parents. He follows me from room to room when he wants attention. If I don't give him attention, or don't give him enough, he'll try and grab my foot or hand with his paw to pull me back. And yes, he uses his claws when he does this. LOL

It's so great that I can leave the door open so he can roam around outside and I don't have to worry about him. Even if he's gone all night. And, if I call for him outside, he comes running.

Dogs are awesome too, for different reasons. Downside is they require more attention, more upkeep, and are usually more expensive.

Upside is you can take them camping and hiking and do more active things with them.

My favorite pet was a 21 year old German boy named Heiko. Unfortunately, German boys age faster than dog years and he was useless to me by the age of 24.

So I guess dogs still make the best pets.

Yes, cats can be extremely loyal, in fact about twice a year my cat would claw, scratch, and bite only me, nobody else.....

He used up his 9 lives long ago.

I've had birds since I was a young child (except for a period of time when I didn't have any pets when my two younger kids were very young). Birds are beautiful, intelligent, friendly and hilarious. Wouldn't trade 'em for anything.

    Re: Best Pet

Dog - Can make great pets in a country setting. I am a person that has a very low tolerance of noise so a barking dog quickly gets on my nerves. Personally I wish all outdoor dogs were banned in town limits. I have had some great dogs but they remained outside and not fenced (country).

Cats- I think they make great pets. Generally quiet and do not smell bad (unlike alot of dogs). My problem with cats is they must remain indoors or they will kill alot of wildlife.

Fish- I dont really know lol. Seem every fish I have ever tried died the first week. I felt to bad to every try again.

Pig- Never had one as a pet but have met people that have. The insured me they were ever bit as good as a dog and as easily trained.

Bird- I have had many birds and love them. They do take alot of care and can be noisy tho . Some can turn ugly and become a real pest. I swear I had a parrot that had split personality disorder. One moment he would be playful and lovable the next he wanted to tear you apart limb by limb.

Lizards/snakes- while interesting they dont do a whole lot. They are experts at sitting on one place for hours at a time.

Hamsters- I have had a few as a child and enjoyed them. They can be alot of fun to watch but are typically nocturnal so if your a daytime person you'll miss most of the enjoyment.

Rabbits- Couldnt say. I love watching them in my yard tho!

they do that 'cause they think you're a retard that can't hunt for yourself.
