While I think Arizona's latest law is unconstitutional, and will be struck down by SCOTUS, it shows just how serious a problem this is for that state and their neighbors.
Why is immigration suddenly become such an urgent thing? Nothing different now than it was before cheap labor was in demand by the government. Just enforce the labor laws again and things will eventually return to normal. If an illegal can't find a government promoted illegal job, they'll have no choice but to go back home.

I totally agree with you. There are many tough love type solutions that could help. The problem is no one is taking the lead to enact and then enforce any of them. This is a political hot potato as well as something many businesses, who use those illegals, don't want changed.

I do disagree that when illegals can't find a job that they'll go home. They would rather be unemployed here than unemployed in Mexico. And that's when the crime starts.

Why do the politicians want to blame the workers? For every illegal worker, there is an illegal boss. Crack down on the illegal hiring, and the workers just trying to feed their family will have to go home. Republicans want to take the focus off the real problem and blame it on the boarder and bulk a stupid fence. The boarder and the workers aren't the problem, the Bush administration was the problem.

All correct, except that the practice of ignoring illegal immigration goes all the way back to the Kennedy Administration. Eisenhower and his non PC named "operation wetback" was the last attempt to try to control the border, back in the '50's

I think, for the time being, states can deal with their own immigration problem. Energy is a more pressing issue.

However, after energy, we should focus more attention on immigration.

National sovereignty is a federal issue, not a state one. if the feds can't do what the Constitution says that they should be doing, then perhaps they should back off of issues that do belong to the states and focus on their own responsibilities.

Re: Which bill should come up next in the U.S. Senate, Energy or Migration?

Energy issues are being addressed, and progress is being made as technological advances occur. Energy independence is a huge problem, and we should continue working on it. It will never be considered "solved".

To my knowledge, almost nothing has been done about illegal immigrants. And it is not a huge problem. We just enforce the laws we have. We catch them and send them home. All of them.....
It is not an insurmountable problem, and it can be accomplished to the point that we can consider it solved.

    So I vote for "migration"....
