Replace congress with a vigilantly fraud resistant (and proven to the people) populace vote?

As prone to corruption as Congress is, the constituants are infinitely worse.

On top of that, it'd be confusing and extremely costly.

If we were a nation of a million people, maybe. Not 300 million.

I dunno. Would have to think on it and know the securities we have and what is wrong with them first. Im easy to admit that nothing is fraud proof though.

This is something that could not work. It can work on a small scale but nothing as large as the entire government. Just as the Founders knew it would not work when they first set up our government.

That would never work. The people are the idiots who elected Congress in the first place.

Smartest thing said on this forum all week.

Yeah, they were looking for a change, but the change they got is way too much, too fast.

That sounds like replacing Congress with mob rule.

Nah. I'm against mob rule. However, I do think we should have a process of popular initiatives for federal laws. I think the people should be able to pass federal laws that 1) have a majority of popular support nationwide and 2) have a majority of state populations support it. So to pass a vote, it should not only get a majority nationwide, it also needs a majority in 26 of the states. That way the people can bypass Congress if need be in order to pass some needed laws.

Problem - that system sets it up where a MINORITY can block legislation if they happen to live in fewer than half the states. In your system, the people in as few as 5 or 6 of the largest states could block laws supported by a majority in the rest.

Much like the electoral college can elect a president with a minority of the popular vote.

Kind of like the Senate?

Yes, like the Senate too, good point.

But at least the Senate has the House to counterbalance it.
