What are your most important critera when you purchase a car or truck?

This poll is multiple choice. Choose all that are really important to you.

All of the above.

If my kids get home, alive, and I still have some cash in my wallet, it's a great car.

Safety followed by cost of operation.

Depends on what I want out of the vehicle.

When I was looking for a truck, I wanted the following in order:

4x4
Standard transmission
AC
In decent shape - not a 'fixer upper'
better than 10 mpg
NOT white or any pastel color
cloth seats, not vinyl or leather
bucket seats instead of a full bench
fog lights
trailer hitch
bed liner
CD player or place for one

When I was looking for my car, I wanted the following in order:
Convertible
Affordable
Good shape
AC
Automatic top lower/raise
Standard transmission
NOT white or any pastel color
cloth seats, not vinyl or leather
Full back seat
Decent sized trunk
CD player or place for one

Price, dependability.

Purely economics. When I'm in more stable financial shape, then I'll get the flashy "this will get me laid" car.

I've only purchased one car in my life, and my criteria were price, dependability, and fuel economy. Mostly since I commute 75 miles one way to work.

My vehicles have to have the following:

1. Four wheel drive

2. Comfortable

3. Not backed by government cash

4. Very little rust in the undercarriage

5. Decent tires

I like my "cars" to have no more than two wheels ;)

Me too! Gas costs $0.00 0/100ths per gallon and there's no traffic.

Unless you mean motorcycles.

Good luck finding one of those these days!

BTW, you should go over to my Tea partier on AMTAK thread, that might interest you. Put Rev. Hellhound on ignore first though.

Ford is the only one of the big three that didnt take government money. I have an 02 Ranger now. In addition I like Rev

Economy and engine durability are #1 for me.
Can I stick my hands in the engine compartment and have enough room to work is #2.

Everything else is not as important.

P.S. Asian cars are awesome.

I'm trying to move to a 2 wheel geek mobile.
It's not getting much of a good reception from car/Harley lovers.

Re: Most important criteria in buying a car

The most important is economy of operation, which includes parts, accessibility, durability.
This followed by good ride and handling.
The least important is the "safety" features and the emission controls.
Reasonably good taste in styling is a plus.
Sadly, still no automotives Diesels for America.
Score "one" for the environmentalists and zero for the American working man.

A real man's vehicle:

In that case, you get your bicycle, I'll get my car, we'll drive them toward each other. The one who walks away is the real man.

C'mon. Chicken.

Okay. I'll dodge at the last minute because I can turn on a dime, and go on the grass, while you plow into a tree. Better yet, I'll ride on a nice car-free trail. No, I'll ride and stay healthy with lots of exercise while you slowly die of heart disease or stress.

I know, cheating.

My car turns on a dime. I don't drive trucks or SUVs. I drive a little 4-cylinder geek-machine.

And if you go on a bike trail or something, I'll just get my gun out and shoot you. I'm an American, dammit.

Well, I'm an American too, so my bike has a backup twin-turbocharged 350cc V8 engine and a handlebar-mounted .50 caliber M2 Browning machine gun.

People get out of my way.
