Maybe Congress needs to institute a rule for bills like what the British Parliament has: that the contents of the bill can only deal with things relating to the title of the bill. That way, we don't have spending for the military added to agricultural subsidy bills. That would go a LONG way to curbing government spending.

I'm confident that it's of no surprise to anyone that I would chuz the abortion issue as the one I view as being 'most important.'

But if there's any question as to 'why' I feel the abortion issue is most important,... it's really very simple.

Without the right that a person has to their life, due process and the equal protection of our laws,.... none of the other issues really mean anything.

I'd like a single issue bill rule.

Until the people have some sort of ability for popular ballots for federal laws, the people have no checks against those who seek to use the government for abuse, both those on the Left and on the Right.

well that is not entirely true but the way of retaliating is rather extreme and probably the response would be fatal.

what we need (wish or a prayer?) are judges who actually respect the tenth amendment and have no problem striking down stuff that is "popular" if it is not constitutional.

I'm concerned with all those, but my chief issue is that the size, scope, expense and intrusiveness of government at all levels needs to be reduced, most especially the Federal level.

Roughly a third of the money the Fedgov is spending doesn't actually exist; it is debt. Does that not tell you that the Fed has gotten WAY too big?

Not simply economics, but they stick their nose into way too much, and there's too much bureaucracy, and too many infringments on our rights.

    That's #1 for me.

Exactly. Our debt and deficits are growing at a higher rate than income in the form of taxes. This cannot go on indefinitely, and I suspect will eventually be our downfall. The other problems can be fixed, but debt/deficit problem can't be fixed without making severe cuts where the general population just can't accept on an emotional level.

But what you don't realize is that judges are part of the government system, and thus are insulated from the wishes of the people. Until the U.S. has a system where the will of the people can be exercised in federal law, politicians of each branch, the executive, legislative, and judicial, can override that popular political will.

Oh it can be fixed quickly but no one here will like it one bit and that's without the severe cuts.
