Yes but not because it will benefit Mexico, because it will benefit us.
Legalizing drugs in America will not reduce the bloodshed in Mexico. Why would it? There's still gonna be a demand for drugs (prolly a rise in demand if decriminalized). Drug addicts aren't going to mysteriously kick their habits once drugs are legal.
America doesn't have the climate to grow coca leaves or poppy plants. Drug cartels still supply us with marijuana and crystal meth, and these are the 2 drugs we can produce here.
And besides....The US government makes too much money off illegal drugs. Do you all really think metric tons of drugs are coming across the border without people being paid off? I bet if it were nuclear weapons that border would be sealed up.
But if drugs can be imported legally, then the cartels will be out of business, unless, of course, they want to become legitimate business people, which is highly unlikely. Even if they did, there would be no need for gang wars to establish turf.
Of course, addicts aren't going to kick their habits if drugs are made legal, but they will have access to those drugs, along with counseling and medical supervision, until they are able to kick the habit. Meanwhile, they won't have to engage in illegal activities in order to feed their addiction.

I think this is the fourth time I've stated this.
Decriminalization and legalization of drugs won't stop drug use but rather drug violence.
Of course we will still get the same number of people in the U.S. who are drug addicts. And I'm fine with that. But it will stop the drug violence in the U.S. and in Mexico when legitimate businesses will be able to manufacture and distribute recreational drugs rather than criminal cartels killing each other over the trade.
The cartels wouldn't be out of business, business would probably pick up. Who do you think makes Americas cocaine? And who do you think ships it over the borders?
Why would it stop drug violence(Mexico)?
So, now that alcohol is legal, is it still moonshiners who are making it?
Cocaine and heroin can be made much more cheaply in legal factories than they can in clandestine laboratories.

Because drug violence in Mexico is a direct result of the underground market in the United States.
Exactly. So when drugs are 'legal' there's still going to be a huge market for the drugs. Coke heads still need a steady supply of cocaine coming from somewhere.
Right, but cartels aren't going to be killing anybody over it. Which I much prefer.
Yes they will be killing each other over it. They're in competition for the only 2-3 main drug routes in North Mexico. They're killing over the routes and Calderones new policy against cartels not because of Americas drug addiction.
Yes, that is what's happening now, but if it were legal in the U.S., then the Mexican government would allow drugs to freely flow through it and into the U.S. and it would get rid of the cartels who kill each other, thus ending the drug violence.
No it just doesn't work like that. Cartels are gonna be Cartels no matter what happens. If drugs are legal in the US then those Cartels are still going to be in deadly competition.
Yeah, because the Pepsi and Coca-Cola manufacturers down there engage in such violence with each other right now.
:shock:Wow you guys. If you're really comparing Bill Gates and Pepsi to these psychotic cartels who decapitate their own brothers in competition then I'm just....i mean i don't know what else to say.

That illustrates the difference between legalization and decriminalization. If drugs are legal (not just decriminalized) in the U.S. then it would be legal for legitimate businesses to manufacture and sell them. The underground drug trade would eventually become as small as the underground alcohol trade. No it just doesn't work like that. Cartels are gonna be Cartels no matter what happens. I don't know what to say about the fact that, no matter how many times we reiterate it, you can't seem to comprehend that these psychotic cartels only act violently because the drugs are illegal, but once they are legal, legitimate businesses will arise and instead of drug crimes there will be a drug industry, which will get rid of the drug violence.
