Of course we will still get the same number of people in the U.S. who are drug addicts. And I'm fine with that. But it will stop the drug violence in the U.S. and in Mexico when legitimate businesses will be able to manufacture and distribute recreational drugs rather than criminal cartels killing each other over the trade.
Why would it stop drug violence(Mexico)?

So, now that alcohol is legal, is it still moonshiners who are making it?

Cocaine and heroin can be made much more cheaply in legal factories than they can in clandestine laboratories.

Because drug violence in Mexico is a direct result of the underground market in the United States.

Well that's an entirely different subject. Now you're talking about the US government coming up with huge drug factories overnight to quench Americas insatiable appetite for foreign narcotics. Making narcotics 'legal' is much different than legally manufacturing legal narcotics for it's citizens.

Clandestine laboratories are for synthetic drugs(Methamphetamine, LSD, MDMA, etc.). Cocaine's more a "giant field" operation.

Exactly. So when drugs are 'legal' there's still going to be a huge market for the drugs. Coke heads still need a steady supply of cocaine coming from somewhere.

Right, but cartels aren't going to be killing anybody over it. Which I much prefer.

Yes they will be killing each other over it. They're in competition for the only 2-3 main drug routes in North Mexico. They're killing over the routes and Calderones new policy against cartels not because of Americas drug addiction.

Yes, that is what's happening now, but if it were legal in the U.S., then the Mexican government would allow drugs to freely flow through it and into the U.S. and it would get rid of the cartels who kill each other, thus ending the drug violence.

No it just doesn't work like that. Cartels are gonna be Cartels no matter what happens. If drugs are legal in the US then those Cartels are still going to be in deadly competition.
