Give your reason for your vote.

My assessment:
I am in favor legalizing it in Cali. Some people on both sides of the argument seem to be forgetting a very important fact that would accompany the first state to legalize marijuana...

Tourism

Imagine them legalizing marijuana in California. People, potheads or occasional users would dream of visiting the state where they could freely smoke. Forget the sales / taxation of marijuana directly (which in itself would bring in much revenue)... the money will be in revenue that would come from people flocking to the state, possibly from all over the world!

Who knows if it would be enough to save Cali from it's financial problems (I predict it would be enough), but it would be one hell of a start!

The fear of it is mainly fueled by extreme conservatism that shrieks even at the sight of smoke.

Its not as harmful as tobacco (it tastes better too ;) ). IMHO it would decrease crime concerning marijuana, plus we could tax it! :)

It's a good idea, but the current ballot question won't legalize Marijuana. It will just allow adults to have 1oz and cultivate a plant without getting arrested. It's better than absolute prohibition but it doesn't address the problem.

I smoke Marijuana sometimes... but decriminalization just gives the consumer a quick escape from the law. With decriminalization you will still have a strong black market run by cartels, and your tax dollars will still be used on this drug war. Decriminalization does nothing to solve the real problem.

What we need is to bring Marijuana into a system of legalization like alcohol. Something like this is the only way we will put the war on Marijuana to rest:

1) Adults over the age of 21 (or 18) may possess any amount of Marijuana.
2) Adults may cultivate Marijuana.
3) Entrepreneurs may sell Marijuana in their shops with a permit and must follow the tax laws for the product.
4) Those driving under the influence of Marijuana will still be changed with DUI.
5) Those selling to a minor will still be charged with contributing to a minor.
