Who donates to the Donation thing?

So it seems we are close to not making this month's end for our ISP. Which brought up a realization, why should DP's have to donate money when we have like a hundred MODs. Maybe a MOD privilige should also be to pay for the ISP?

because mods aren't the only ones that utilise DP, so they shouldn't be the only ones that pay for the privilege

So you want the people who do the work to make the site work to our benefit also have to pay for the site? Do you realize how stupid that sounds?

No I don't. Do you know how stupid your avatar looks? Besides, it seemed like a good question that the people with the power should foot the bill. Which is what is practically happening in society with the rich paying for everything the governmen does.

if you want to look at it like a society, everyone should have to pay to use the site, and then the mods should get paid from that money for supplying services to the site.

But we live in the great Ol' USA where half of the pop lives of the other half:(. So since many of us are poor we need to depend on the rich and powerful and that would be the MODS and Reverend Hellhound.

A hundred Mods? There is the owner, 10 Moderators, 5 Dungeon Masters, and 2 Bartenders on the DP Staff. By my ciphering, that is 18 people.

We all volunteer our time, talents, and energies to operate and manage this board.

Nevertheless, I believe almost all Staff members are DP Donators. Some are also multiple DP Donators.

It costs money to operate a board of this size and complexity 24/7 365 days a year. Member Donations significantly help defray our monthly operating expenses. All Donations are strictly voluntary and are greatly appreciated. From my perspective, DP is a great bargain. It's always here for me and is one-stop shopping... fun, serious, enlightening, and challenging. No matter what mood I am in, there is always something here to pique my interest or bring a big smile to my face :)

The way I look at it, a few bucks is quite cheap for all I get out of this site.

That's how people should look at it. I enjoy a site and spend a fair amount of time here and use up bandwidth with my inane ramblings, then I donate.

Unfortunately, you'll find that some think that pardons their behavior or they'll say that's why they haven't donated.. because they say the site is biased. :roll: Which of course, any political site you frequent, people will accuse them of bias as well.
 
I've accumulated 20k posts here in the past 5+ years, which means that I've been posting here for more than 75% of my adult life. The interactions I've had on this site have forced me to critically think about every position I've ever staked out. I've changed my mind on many things, gained a more nuanced view on many others, and learned to explicate my views and express myself more clearly on absolutely everything. I can honestly say that my posting here has helped me be better at what I do, and I owe this site (and the posters here) quite a bit for that. When I'm budgeting each semester I set aside a chunk of $ for this site, and once I finally pay off these loans I'll be setting aside much much more.

There's really no way I can thank vauge enough for what he's done here. In case he reads this, you da best mayne, you deed it.
 
I donated because I get quite a bit of entertainment at this site. I like the site.
 
One nice thing is that they do nothing to coerce you to donate. You don't really get any benefit as far as more posting privilages or anything that I've noticed. Everyone is on equal footing. It's a great site, just right. It's busy enough for my tastes, and it's run very well.
 
You damn leechers, if you're going to benefit from something you have an obligation to give back! It sickens me that people would reap all the benefits of a site and think they can leave the bill to someone else. Disgusting. Also if you don't donate then I might have to.

(Seriously though... I would if I had any money)

I would gladly donate to help cover costs if my financial situation allowed it. I just cannot justify the funds at this time. I do appreciate the service.
 
I think I donated maybe 6 hours before this topic was created. Quite weird.
 
I donated LONG before I became a mod. With the amount of time I spend here, the amount of information I've learned here, the level of help this place has given me in my job, the level of enjoyment I get from being here, and the wonderful people I've met, I couldn't imagine NOT donating. If anyone feels the same as I, I would hope they would donate, too.

If I could give more, I would in a heartbeat.

Considering that being a mod is an unpaid posistion why should they have to pay for the site?

I have donated before with out problems but there is problem now with my pay pal account and I can't seen to get it straightened out. If you can provide another way to donate I can pick up the slack for what is missing but I need to know by Monday because I am flying out early tuesday morning
