Listening to some of the talk show host they seem to be under the impression that this will cost a lot of democrats their seats and somehow the republicans will repeal this. So I decided to ask ask this question-

If republicans get a significant majority will they repeal Obama health care reform?

I say no. I think a lot of these politicians say one thing and do another for votes.

If enough Republicans are elected into office with the intent to overturn Obama's socialist health care reform, I believe it can and will be overturned. The taxes will start immediately, but the "benefits" of ObamaCare do not begin until 2013. So, theoretically, the country has about three years to stop socialism before the entitlements begin and it becomes too late to kill the bill. Until the entitlements actually begin, it can be overturned if enough people vote politicians into office with the intent to stop socialism.

really? the taxes start immediately? link?

Re: If republicans get a significant majority will they repeal Obama health care refo

We can only hope that the Republicans come back get the majority. The only reason that it passed is because Obama bribed several people.

You'll see. :devil:

It's in the reconciliation bill. Let me see if I can find a link for ya, since I know you'll be in denial about the tax increases until you wake up one morning and realize Obama's dirty hands are in your wallet.

Re: If republicans get a significant majority will they repeal Obama health care refo

uh-huh. yes, please provide the link.

Re: If republicans get a significant majority will they repeal Obama health care refo

(sigh)....whatever.

Re: If republicans get a significant majority will they repeal Obama health care refo

They'll overturn the spending provisions but leave most of the taxes so they can blame those on the Democrats but keep the money.

Uh, immediately like in the next tax year, not like tomorrow.

Re: If republicans get a significant majority will they repeal Obama health care refo

Think about it, what parts are they going to repeal?

Being able to keep your kids on your policy until they are 26? No, it has strong support.

The insurance exchanges? No, people will be using them.

The ban on denying coverage because of preexisting conditions? No, that part has strong support.

Any of the other consumer protections? Nope, not a chance as they all have strong support.

So what are we left with? The insurance mandate. The problem there is that while it is not politically popular, the insurance companies love it. Since the Republicans are in the pocket of the insurance lobby, there is not much of a chance they will repeal that portion of the bill either. They might try to bring back the corporate welfare "Medicare Advantage" overpayments, but that probably all they will touch if they get back into power.

i don't know about next tax year, either.

I think David Frum summed it up rather succinctly here:

More relevantly: Do Republicans write a one-sentence bill declaring that the whole thing is repealed? Will they vote to reopen the "doughnut" hole for prescription drugs for seniors? To allow health insurers to deny coverage to people with pre-existing conditions? To kick millions of people off Medicaid?

It's unimaginable, impossible.

How GOP can rebound from its 'Waterloo' - CNN.com

This is no different than Medicare and SS.. once in, repealing it is unthinkable, that will now be political suicide, although modifying it is possible, and in some cases that can be welcomed and needed.

Well most of the taxes are from Democrats and all of it goes to lazy people and dumb things Obama thinks he should spend it on. And the Health care is just another excuse for him to get more money.

I could be wrong but aren't some the talk show host using the brady bill as an example of democrats losing their seats? When have any of the republicans worked to repeal the Brady Bill?

Let me guess. Your one of them thats probably why your a liberal. Are you mad that you didnt get your check today?

Re: If republicans get a significant majority will they repeal Obama health care refo

We all know Massachusetts has a somewhat-similar health care system that ObamaCare will be, which Mitt Romney discussed with Greta on Fox News. According to the Wall Street Journal, average Massachusetts health care premiums are now the highest in the nation. Per capita health spending is 27 percent higher than the national average. And fiscal 2010 costs are $47 million over budget.

Mitt Romney also said this of the differences between a State mandated health care system versus ObamaCare:
We didn't raise taxes. We did not at the same time cut Medicare and expect our seniors to have to pay for all this. We didn't do what President Obama's doing, which is putting controls on our system of premiums for private insurance companies. [...] A big difference — a state plan versus a federal plan. No new taxes, unlike his plan. No cut in Medicare, unlike his plan. And no controls over insurance premiums, price controls, cost controls like his plan. So very, very different in that regard. [...] But the idea of taking what we did and applying something entirely different to the entire nation is not the right approach. And I think that's why President Obama is seeing the kind of resistance that he's experiencing.
They say it's quite right that Romney didn't raise taxes to his state's universal health care system, but Massachusetts got millions of dollars from the federal government to finance the plan.

MSNBC political analyst Lawrence O’Donnell admitted that ObamaCare will enact the largest tax increase ever in America's history.

The Wall Street Journal reported that middle-income families will face a big marginal rate increase.

Here's just some of the damage we can expect from ObamaCare:
Obama and the Democrats in Congress are taking money out of our pockets with more than a dozen new taxes created by the bill. These would add up quickly for families:

* Elimination of the Medicare Part D (prescription drug) deduction ($5.4 billion);
* A 0.5 percent hike in the Medicare payroll tax for single earners over $200,000
* A tax on branded drugs ($22.2 billion);
* An annual tax on the health insurers ($60.4 billion)
* A 40 percent excise tax on "high value" health care ($149.1 billion in new taxes over the next 10 years); and joint earners over $250,000 ($53.8 billion);
* Changes in health savings accounts (HSAs), ($5 billion);
* A $2,500 cap on FSAs in cafeteria plans ($14.6 billion);
* An increase from 10 percent to 20 percent in the penalty for early non-qualified HSA withdrawals ($1.3 billion);
* A tax on companies that manufacture or import medical devices ($19.3 billion);
* An increase in the floor of the medical expenses deduction from 7.5 percent of adjusted gross income to 10 percent, except for seniors, who will stay at 7.5 percent ($15.2 billion);
* A mandate on companies with more than 50 employees to provide health coverage or pay a $750 penalty per employee for those who obtain coverage through the insurance exchange ($36 billion over 10 years) and a mandate on individuals to obtain coverage or pay a tax penalty.

And finally, common sense tells me that taxes MUST got up in order to finance the largest social contract ever forced onto the American people. The money to pay for socialism won't magically appear out of thin air. Unless you're a liberal, in which case you believe that it will.

Re: If republicans get a significant majority will they repeal Obama health care refo

While there is an off shot that it can be repealed after the 2010 elections, its kind of like saying there's an off shot that the Cleveland Browns will win the Super Bowl next year.

The more likely scenario, which is still sadly unlikely but frankly the best chance we have to not have another abomination of an entitlement program weighing down on the countries neck like an albatross ala social security, is for Republican congressional victories in 2010 and 2012 on the back of, in part, pushing for the repeal of this legislation and Republicans winning the white house.

IF that happens, and if the repeal is a part of that platform that wins it, 2012 will be the only shot for it. A large majority of the actual entitlement portions of this bill don't come into affect for another year or two after that, giving us one of the only chances to successfully repeal this monstrosity.

This is part of the reason why, many times, when forced to go with the lesser of two evils choice I go with Republicans over Democrats. Republican laws that get passed that I disagree with are usually in the social realm and tend to be historically far more likely to be overturned, and generally have far less long lasting negative results on the country, than the things in the entitlement realm that Democrats hang on this countries neck.

Our government now has control of our bodies along with our pocket books. It frankly makes me sick to my stomach. Thank god father government will take money out of your pants so I can see a doctor for it. :roll:

I pretty sure they won't.

They want something to manipulate just as much as the Democrats do.
A new tool in the box of political pandering.
