Generally speaking, if you could choose, would you rather go into an interview as a white male or a black male?

I am not interested in specific exceptions to the general rule, just the rule itself.

I personally am smart enough to know that my chances of getting the job are increased if I enter an interview as a white male. And god help me, I am thankful that I am white for that and other similar reasons.

Knowing my own answer to this question, I know that racism is alive and kicking.

It would depend on the job.........;)

By going into an upscale resale shop, and being "eyed down", like I'm going to steal something. Being told by the salesclerk not to "run through any bushes", in my DKNY jacket, out the clear blue sky. When riding a bus, and an outside seat becomes available, and the overweight white guy, moves to occupy 2 seats so that I can't sit down, though laden with packages.
Or, standing at a bus stop, and 2 little white ladies pull up in a late model Benz, and upon seeing me, in suit and tie, lock their doors and roll up their windows. I could go on and on...most of the time, I breathe a heavy sigh and roll my eyes. "Unless I give it to them"???? You have no idea what you're talking about.

If your brothers weren't the perpetrators of most urban crime, then perhaps people would look at you differently. I am not defending their actions, but your brothers are responsible.

Please, next time you reply with a comment in the middle, correctly multi-quote it.

Your description of AA is actually Equal Opportunity law. No discrimination on the basis of race, among other things. AA forces the hiring of less qualified minorities and is an abomination.

And that would be your spin and/or opinion, which is not truth.

You do have a victimization viewpoint. You feel that opportunities are owed to you as a result of your race.

Absolutely not. Do not pretend that you know me. You do not.

Glad to hear you are working hard. Change your attitude and there is no telling what you will be able to accomplish.

Excuse me? Who died and deigned you God? Don't tell me what to do.

The playing fields are not level because of a lack of education and wealth. It has nothing to do with racial inequality or racism. Many blacks are one's who inject racism into the mix and your "white privilege" is an excellent example of this.

Again. That is your opinion, and not truth.

I'd would actually choose to go as a black male since there is so little representation in my field by blacks. Damn shame but it requires critical thinking and education which are evidently rare.

:doh.........

Excuse me? My brothers? I have one brother. Urban crime? Oh, right, since whites never commit any crimes, urban or otherwise.
And where would you be getting your crime statistics from? Right.

It always amazes me that some folks are so rigidly attached to their position that they cannot grasp the concept of CONTEXT. Things are NOT black or white, nor, in nearly all cases, are their absolutes.

Its not about context. Racist jokes are still racist jokes regardless of who tells them and those who tell racist jokes have no business bitching and moaning over someone using the word nigger. It doesn't matter if it is comedians saying something racist or if it is a politician saying something racist or some kid getting on a speaker system at a walmart.

BS, and you are dodging. I asked in general, not specific jobs.

Let's try this a different way:

If you couldn't know in advance which specific community you would be born into, but you knew you would be growing up in a predominately white neighborhood: Would you rather be born a middle class black person, or a middle class white person in the United States.

And no, I will not be attempting these thought experiments for every dodge you can think of.

Can we just go with the incarceration stats?.........

Software? Are you kidding? You should get out more. There are highly skilled and qualified black programmers, technicians, and developers, that probably could "run rings".

Firstly, I said in general, not specific fields or jobs.

Secondly, do you really think that, in general, an employer is going to hire you because you are black?

Being "victimized" can offend one.

WHo was victimized? People are offended everyday, it still does not make them victims.

I believe the blacks who left the store, complying with what was being instructed, were offended, and were "victimized" by the prankster.

I would say they were being stupid for complying with such an idiotic request. Being stupid does not make you a victim.

No, because I am qualified. But being black wouldn't hurt in the IT industry. They are way underrepresented.

I know there are, but they are underrepresented.

It was not intended as a dodge......
I will say this: The union trades, ie plumbers, electricians, tin knockers, painters, have very low percentages of blacks due to lack of enrollment at the apprenticeship level.......
These were good paying jobs until Golman Sachs & co put us in a depression...;)

I say following the request of a store manager is common sense.
There could have been a terrorist in the store targeting black people.
The fact that it was a prank only underscores the indignity.
You're entitled to your opinion. As I am.

I know there are, but they are underrepresented.

Oh, I was thinking you were implying that they were non-existent.
Knowing your mindset. Blacks not capable of critical thinking, and all.

First, mind answering my previous post to you. Interested to hear your counter.

Second, so are you suggesting that if someone does something...REGARDLESS OF THE CONTEXT...then they should never be upset if anyone else does the same thing, regardless of the context?

Is that what you're really saying?

oh, wow, you certainly are repressed, maybe i should list the times i got hassled by black people when i was walking to my then girlfriends house, simply because it was an area with a majority of black residents, or the time i was kept out of a section of the public library because there was a group of black people there, but i don't go calling that black elitism, nor do i apply it to the entire ethnic group, i just put it down to individual dickheads.

Oh, I was thinking you were implying that they were non-existent.

You know nothing about my mindset. Many blacks learn critical thinking but many do not (like there are many whites who do not). The attitude of rejecting a "white-man's education" is something that is strictly on the black side of the house and prevents many blacks from learning critical thinking.

In certain fields, yes, because there are quotas to fill......;)
