Oh good grief. Are you that obtuse? I was merely pointing out that the employer takes things out of your paycheck and feels that you are worth what he/she pays you plus all the benefits, which include your insurance and unemployment tax. Therefore, technically, YOU are paying for both.

NOW will you address the real issue here?

Dammit, I keep forgetting that I am supposed to be ignoring you, because you do this every time -- you can't debate the real issue so you pretend your opponent has said something different and you debate that instead.

I've never received the type of aid GND asked about, though I'm sure there were times in my life that I qualified. I just didn't consider myself needy enough to take away from someone who really needed it. There's always a waitressing gig or similar if someone wants to work.

Having said that, if I were in a position now that my child had to go without because of my finances, then there's no question. I would suck up my pride and fill out those apps.

Re: Have you ever received government assistance.

What sort of assistance are we talking about? There are all sorts of programs beyond unemployment/welfare. There are subsidies and grants and all sorts of **** we get from the government. Are roads part of government assistance? What about scientific research? Huge oil companies who sit on plots of land and collect massive subsidies to not farm the land?

If you get down to it, almost all of us have probably had some form of government assistance in some form.

    Go without what?

It isn't, it's something that you pay for out of your paycheck every week, just like unemployment insurance and social security. Since you specifically paid for it, it's not government assistance.
There is nothing demonstrably true that religion can provide the world that cannot be achieved more rationally through entirely secular means.

That's exactly what I was thinking. And that's the only assistance I have ever received.

I did file an unemployment claim once in a panic when I got laid off and after I burned through 3/4's of my emergency savings while job hunting. I was hired before the first check was mailed by them so I canceled it, but the intention was still there on my part.

Nope, nothing. I did get unemployment once, back when it was $47.00 a week.
