I haven't received government assistance, unless disability for maternity leave is considered assistance.

Did you pay them back? If so, that's not really govt assistance. I don't think unemployment insurance should count either, it's insurance.

Well, student loans are government assistance in that they are at a lesser rate than a bank loan and are given without as many background checks and such as a bank loan. It's still "government assistance."

And unemployment "insurance" doesn't count? Why not? Isn't all government aid the same? After all, we pay money to the government in many ways, and get it back in many ways. Aren't food stamps "insurance"? We pay our taxes as insurance in the hope that we don't get poor, and if we do, we get aid in exchange for those taxes?

You seem to be nitpicking a bit here to limit what you consider government assistance.

Unemployment insurance is paid for by employers to my knowledge, and student loans are repaid.

I'm not sure why that makes them not "government assistance."

After all, in a sense, you are paying for the unemployment insurance, as it is an amount that your employer is paying that isn't going to you. (Your employer thinks you are worth X and he pays you X minus the cost of health care and unemployment insurance).

In other words, the source of the government money (taxes, forced insurance, etc) doesn't make it any less "government assistance."

Are you purposely trying to avoid the subject by refusing to respond to my post?

Of course it isn't and nothing I have said even implies such.
