To those that said "Yes." Why is it okay to eat something that is endangered? You're okay with the extinction of an animal, even if you're not starving and there's plenty of other things to eat?

If it's endangered, we might not get another chance to try it out.

Not eating it isn't going to bring the animal back to life.

I was offered whale tongue in China in a soup, but refused, mostly because it looked utterly repulsive, but also I found the idea abhorrent. The Chinese and Japanese are going to scrape the oceans bare and there is not much to stop it from happening.

I'd probably try it. Then again, maybe not, because I might end up loving it and then I couldn't get any more.

If you are worried about it going extinct then find a way to mass produce it, domesticate it and find a way to make them grow faster with hormones.

I as under the assumption thought part of evolution was survival of the fittest and strongest.

You write that like it's such an easy thing to do. :doh

How about this... don't hunt them until their population is strong enough to sustain. Wow, what a freaking concept.

Hello, half cajun, we'll eat anything.

It's not a case of trying something out that is unusual and different. It's a case of eating an animal that is close to extinction. Once it is gone from this planet, it is gone for good. Buh-bye.

Is that okay with you?

The way that you think is downright scary.

From what I know, they are doing a pretty good job of it so far. If it's not overfishing, it's pollution that killing the sea life.

no, but if it was put in front of me, I wouldn't refuse it. That would be a double waste.

Since I eat sushi often, I'd say yes, on account that I'm semi-ignorant on what I eat. Not to say I don't distinguish avocado from eel to salmon on the list (or check box). If it's endangered, I suppose I'd *attempt* to be morally correct, but in all honesty, I couldn't care less unless I'm saying no for a reasonably understandable cause. (such as with fungi eating hermit crabs, or cleaner shrimps)

Heheh, on the Simpsons episode where they go to Japan, Marge says something about Japan which ends with "sparkling whale free waters".

I find it hard to believe that some of you here don't think that an endangered speces is not worth the "effort" to preserve. It's not difficult... just eat something else. :doh

name one useful thing an extinct species has done recently:mrgreen:

So if you were at a sushi resturaunt, and a free appetizer came to your table and it was this whale. you would not be the least bit curious as to its taste?

Endangered whale? Not one iota. I guess I am a person of principal.

So am I. I am principally opposed to wasting any food, endangerd or not.

Would I seek it out? no.

There is a huge difference between not eating all of your fries. Potatoes will not go extinct.

If everyone ate the whale meat that was presented to them, then the demand goes up.

Tell that to the irish!

We are not talking about everyone.

If we create a tasty domesticated breed of whales then no one will see the need to hunt wild whales except for maybe a few people and the wild population will grow.

"whale farm" sounds like a bad orgy.

Personally I think that they should encourage better farming methods and allow the population to replenish, but it isn't my call. Oh, and I do know people who have tried whale meat of other varieties and they said it's not that great, kinda gamey and really fatty, I was just tweaking the more animal rights crowd prone here.;)
